HORSLEY (b. 1803, NC) and JOHN B. HORSLEY (b. 1806, NC) in order to use our combined information to try to identify the assumed brothers' parents. Also, I am hoping to find male Horsley descendants from both lines who are willing to do DNA testing for the same purpose. A report of my research to date entitled "Theophilus T. Horsley and John B. Horsley: Who Were Their Parents?" is available online at: www.JoanHorsley.org My research has found that WILLIAM N. HORSLEY could not be their father, as has long been thought. William N. Horsley was born about 1812, after John B. and T. T. were born. Evidence shows William N. was the eldest son of David Horsley of York Co., SC. It would be this William N. Horsley who, according to "Horsley Families of America," witnessed a land dispute settlement in 1836 (or 1837) involving William N.'s father David, his aunt Susan, and his grandfather Richard Horsley. Also, William N. Horsley was not the same person as James Horsley Jr.'s son William, as has been claimed. James' son WILLIAM HORSLEY was born in MD in 1767. No records (including censuses) have been found for him after he purchased York County, SC land in 1798. This William Horsley does not appear to be the father of John B. and Theophilus T. since: 1) his last known record was 5-8 years before they were born; 2) he has not been found in records in NC, where they were born; 3) they did not acquire William's land, as they would by the laws of inheritance if they were William's sons; 4) William's land appears to revert back to his siblings, as the law would require if he died with no heirs; and 5) records show no interactions or associations between the family of William Horsley and John B. or T. T. (even though John B. lived in York Co, SC in the 1830's where William's brother Richard Horsley and Richard's then-grown children also lived). I invite you to read my research report with the evidence and sources for these statements and to contact me so we can discuss our combined information about these families. Also if you or someone you know qualifies as a male Horsley descendant of John B. or Theophilus T. Horsley and might be willing to do DNA testing (a simple mouth swab) to help us unravel the mystery of their father, please let me know. We have a small fund that can help cover the DNA test expense, if that is needed. I look forward to hearing from you.
