Not that I know of. I found it looking through some old newspaper archives and having three grown children I could relate. That town hasn't anything to do with Valentine Horsley does it ...........................Maurice (Horsley line) Ga/Al
This is from the Valentine Democrat Valentine, Nebraska Oct. 12, 1905 The following poem is from the pen of A. J. Irwin of Thermopolis, Wyo., who is the father of James Irwin of this city: The family home I loved so well With childhood scenes so bright, Has passed far away from home; But where are they all tonight. Yes, where are they tonight? A few happy years of time, That was pleasant fair and bright, And all left their childhood home: But where are they tonight, Yes, where are they tonight? The childhood song I sung, That made our hearts feel light, Has gone back : on the roll of time: But where are all tonight? Yes, where are all tonight? I never thought of the days When the family home so bright, Would be broken up by time: But where are they tonight? Yes, where are they tonight? They are out in the world A living on their right, Taking in all the joys of life; But where are they tonight, Yes, where are they tonight? Living on homes far and near, Taking in wealth on sight, And practicing lessons learned: But where are they tonight, Yes, where are they tonight? Days and years have come and gone, And childhood once so bright Has grown to man and womanhood: But where are they tonight, Yes, where are they tonight? They're out in the field of time, A laboring for their right, And at the close of the summer day They close work for the night; But where are they all tonight, Yes, where are all tonight ? -- Treat all stressful situations like a dog does. Briefly, there is a possibility that Gabriel's parents were William Horsley (b.1796) and Nancy Madden but additional documentation is needed to either prove or disprove this belief. The first record I can find for Gabriel is a November 20, 1842 marriage license issued to James Horsley to marry Elizabeth Bloomfield in Carter County, KY, where he is a witness. As of this writing the relationship between James and Gabriel is unknown. Perhaps, Mary Polly Horsley is a sister to either or both men. His mother (my great grand mother) was Mary (Polly) Horsley. I do think Mary had a brother whose name was Gabriel - an elderly aunt told me this information before I found the name listed. Not sure if Gabriel was her father or brother. But, since she was born circa 1826 it must have been a brother. I think Gabriel is listed as a next door neighbor to them in the 1850 Carter County census. Enoch Stone and Polly (not sure) - is there any information you can share. This James was born at Buffalo Creek, Carter County, Ky in March of 1856. The family later moved to Lewis County. He later married Annie Petrie in Pittsburgh, Pa and died there in 1918. In addition to James and John, Gabriel and Mariah (Springer) Horsley children also included: Artemesa, Rachel (1854), Elizabeth (1857), Simon (1858), Basheba (1863), William (1864), Charles (1872). Drussie Horsley b 22 Jan 1908 KY dau of James H. Horsley & Coneney Melvina Dummitt, Drussie married Watson Watt Gifford some time after 1930 and had 1 child, Drussie died 9 May 1972 KY. This information from Kentucky Vital Statistics. The 1910 Kentucky Mircode Index for Lewis Co. KY has Dresia age 2, daughter in the household of James H. Horsley age 41, wife Coneney age 40. The 1920 U.S. KY. Lewis Co. census has her name spelled Druza Horesley age 11. I can not find her on the 1930 census or a marriage bond for her to Watt Gifford. A Kentucky death certificate has James Henry Horsley died, 9 Aug.1936, parents were J. Benj. Horsley & Mary Fultz. I am also trying to determine if James H. Horsley & the John Horsley below are related. John Horsley b abt. 1867 KY son of Gabriel Horsley & Mariah unknown, married Mary E. Scott.abt 1891 had daughter Liddie Florence Horsley abt 1894 . Liddie married William Thomas Gifford 22 Jan 1910 in Petersville Lewis CO. KY. The names Horsely & Drussie appears with different spellings, so not positive that I might not be overlooking something.
