    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/yAk.2ACIB/418.1 Message Board Post: Renee, I would say that there is fairly strong circumstantial evidence that the James who died in 1912 was James H. and not James T. Horsley. The key would seem to be the E. Bloomfield who was the informant. Since James H. was living with Richard and Charlotte Bloomfield just two years before his death in 1912 I believe the informant was probably Charlotte. Neither James fits the age given at death but if the informant did not know who his parents were it is doubtful they knew his exact age. You are right about Jame T. Horsley, his brother was William Horsley (about 1811) and Lucinda was the daughter of William and therefore a niece to James T. William and James were sons of Taylor Horsley who apparently died in the latter part of 1836. Taylor was not a brother of the elder James Taylor Horsley who fought in the Revolutionary War as some researchers have expressed. He was the son of Matthew Horsley who appears to be a brother of the elder James Taylor Horsley. If Matthew and the elder James Taylor Horsley were in fact brothers then the Taylor Horsley who died in 1836 was a nephew to the Revolutionary Was James. Hope this helps, David K. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yAk.2ACIB/419 Message Board Post: My g-g-grandfather, Isaac Clark, married Mary Horsley in Greenup County, KY on 8 April 1823. He was b. 1803 and Mary was b. 1805, and I assume in Greenup County. His father may have been John Clark and Mary's father may have been William Horsley. Isaac and Mary Clark moved to Cole County, MO and are found there in the 1830 census. In 1840 they are in Pulaski County, MO. They had nine children: John b. 1825, Sarah b. 1828, Manda J. b. 1830, George W. b. 1832, Mary Ann b. 1835, Cyntha Ann b. 1835, Andrew J. b 1842, James M. b. 1844, and Benjamin F. b. 1847. Isaac and Mary moved to Carroll County, AR in abt. 1843, apparently for health reasons. They both died in AR in 1850 from consumption. Some of their children may have died young also. The only children I can find in the 1870 census records are John Clark in Camden County, MO, Cyntha Ann (Clark) Pinkston in Camden County, MO and James M. Clark in Laclede County, MO. If anyone has information regarding the parents of Isaac Clark and/or Mary Horsley I would be most appreciative.

I think this was James Henry Horsley s/o Wm & Nancy, but it could be James Taylor Horsley. I've dug around some but I am wondering if anyone else has more concrete information? I have the death certificate but its not of much help. Basically it just says he was 92 yrs old, died of old age, parents unknown, buried at Laurel Cemetery. Informant name - E? Bloomfield (I cant read the first name). It always seems the death certificates that I need to have detailed information never do! On the 1900 Census there are 2 James Horsleys in Lewis Co in that age range, in 1910 only 1 that I can find. 1900 Lewis Co, Grassy Prec, hh#14: Dummitt, Clarance - Oct 1867 Melvina - April 1870, age 30 Eliza J - July 1894 , age 5 Horsley, James - Aug 1819, age 80 WD "servant" (believe this is James Henry Horsley) (hh#15 - Benjamin F Horsley family - James's grandson) 1900 Lewis Co, Dist #3, hh#380: Howard, John, age 69 Lucinda, age 64, marr 48yrs Horsely, James - Feb 1816, age 84 "Uncle" (believe this is James Taylor Horsley - Lucinda would be his niece) 1910 Lewis CO, Grassy Prec, hh#132: Bloomfield, Richard, age 50 Charlotte, age 48 marr 28yrs Rhoda, age 13 Henry, age 10 Horseley, James, age 85 Wd, "uncle" (I believe this is James Henry Horsley - Richard would be his nephew. hh#129 is James H Horsley & family - grandson of the older James H Horsley.)

    1. Ralph HORSLEY ca 1802 Kentucky

    3. Looking for further information on the following. This is a bit involved so bear with me. According to family story someone once heard that the father of Berry HORSLEY, born ca 1823 in Kentucky [ according to census records], fathers name was "Ralph". Working from this point I have only located one "Ralph" in Kentucky that is a possibility, at least up to this point. 1870 Census Index Breckinridge County Hudsonville Town[?] Hardinsburg Post Office Born in Kentucky HORSLEY, Ralph age 68 Farmer Delila age 60 Keeps house Mikael age 22 Farm Hand Susan age 19 at home From the 1850 Breckinridge County Kentucky census I found what might be the same family. Listed also is what I believe to be "Ralph's" parents and some other relatives. 1850 District 2 Breckinridge Count Kentucky HORSLEY, Rapael* age 48 Delia age 41 Squire age 17 William age 15** Sally age 13 John age 10 Stephen age 7 Harrison age 5 Mitchell age 2 Levi age 84 Born Virginia Sarah age 74 Born Virginia CLARKE, Jane*** age 23 HORSLEY, Emily age 16 Henry age 12 * - Could this be a misspelling of "Raphael" or "Rafael" later shortened/Americanized to "Ralph"? ** - Age could be 13 if there was an inadvertent mark made when the taker moved his pen. *** - Jane is my best deciphering of the name on the census sheet. It was rather smudged or written over. I found Levi "HORSELY" listed in the 1820 Breckinridge County Census with three male children and five female children. "Rapael" was not listed separately. Depending on the birth date and date of census "Rapael" could have been the oldest male child. By 1845 Berry HORSLEY was already in Coles County Illinois with his wife and first born son, Joshua Theodore HORSLEY. According to land records from Coles County there was a "William" HORSLEY owning land there towards the end of the 1800's. Other family names from Breckinridge County in Coles County Illinois were Miller [ also located near my HORSLEY's in Oklahoma Territory ], and GANNAWAY. There may have been others that I'm not aware of. Does anyone have any information about the HORSLEY families listed above? -- (o:]>*HUGGLES*<[:o) Billie Walsh The three best words in the English Language: "I LOVE YOU" Pass then on!

    1. Ralph [ Rafael ] HORSLEY ca 1802
    2. Billie Erin Walsh
    3. Someone in my family told me that they were told that someone once overheard someone say that the father of Berry L. HORSLEY was named "Ralph". Pretty common occurance in doing family interviews. Well, that was exactly what I was told. Berry L. HORSLEY was born about 1823 in Kentucky according to Illinois census records. Pretty slim information to work with. I posted a message on the KY list and got a reply, among many good suggestions, that stated there was a "Ralph HORSLEY", age 68, listed in the 1870 Breckinridge County census with wife Delila, age 60. About the right time frame for Berry to be a child [ at least for Ralph ] if he was one of the first couple born. This peaked my interest immediately, as would be normal. Step back n time twenty years. On the Breckinridge County web page I found a link to the 1850 census. District 2 page 63B family 258 has Rafael HORSLEY, age 48, with wife Delia, age 41, several children, a Levi HORSLEY, age 84 and Sarah, age 74. [ Ralph.............................Rafael.................................hmmmmmmmmmmmm Delia............................Delila...................double hmmmmmmmmmm ] Not an exact match but with census takers often writing down what "they" heard, well......... The time frame becomes a bit more workable with the seven year age difference instead of the ten shown in 1870. By 1850 Berry was already in Coles County Illinois married to Sarah _______ raising a family of his own so no chance of finding him listed with his parents. Berry did have a brother named Simeon and there AND there is a child listed something like Symeon, age 17, with Rafael and Delia. There was also a William HORSLEY closely associated with Berry in Coles County. There is a child William, age 15, listed on the census. SO, I guess the question then becomes: Does anyone have any further information on this/these family/families? [ even a no chance is something ] I haven't finished going through all the 1850 census pages but did find another name of interest a couple pages later. [ GANAWAY - but that's fodder for another post ] -- (o:]>*HUGGLES*<[:o) Billie Walsh The three best words in the English Language: "I LOVE YOU" Pass then on!
