    1. Mary Horner Adopted by Walker
    2. Mary Berthold
    3. Hello, I've just joined the list, primarily to try to track down my Horner ancester, Mary Horner, who was born around 1848, probably in Yorkshire, England. She was adopted by William Walker, mason, b. Carlton near Roystone in 1812, and his wife Elizabeth, b. Sheffield around the same time. She appears (as Mary E. Walker) with the Walkers in Sheffield in the 1861 census. I have not been able to locate her or the Walkers in the 1851 census. Mary married Thomas Watts in Sheffield in 1866; the certificate gives her surname as Horner and no father is given, and her maiden name is also given as Horner on the birth record of her daughter. She and Thomas are found living with the Walkers in the 1871 Sheffield census, and Elizabeth Walker appears with the Watts family in the 1881 Sheffield census. In both 1871 and 1881 Mary is identified as adopted. She was still living in 1896 but does not appear in the 1901 census. I can find no trace of Mary before 1861, when she was 13, and I have found! no records of William Walker between his birth and 1861. I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who has information about Mary or has Horner ancestors connected to Walkers (as relatives or as neighbors). Mary (Lodi, Wisconsin, USA)
