    1. Mary Horner Adopted by Walker
    2. Mary Berthold
    3. Hello, I've just joined the list, primarily to try to track down my Horner ancester, Mary Horner, who was born around 1848, probably in Yorkshire, England. She was adopted by William Walker, mason, b. Carlton near Roystone in 1812, and his wife Elizabeth, b. Sheffield around the same time. She appears (as Mary E. Walker) with the Walkers in Sheffield in the 1861 census. I have not been able to locate her or the Walkers in the 1851 census. Mary married Thomas Watts in Sheffield in 1866; the certificate gives her surname as Horner and no father is given, and her maiden name is also given as Horner on the birth record of her daughter. She and Thomas are found living with the Walkers in the 1871 Sheffield census, and Elizabeth Walker appears with the Watts family in the 1881 Sheffield census. In both 1871 and 1881 Mary is identified as adopted. She was still living in 1896 but does not appear in the 1901 census. I can find no trace of Mary before 1861, when she was 13, and I have found! no records of William Walker between his birth and 1861. I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who has information about Mary or has Horner ancestors connected to Walkers (as relatives or as neighbors). Mary (Lodi, Wisconsin, USA)

    3. Peter, I really wish I could tie 'our' Horners to yours, but I can't see how at present. Our William Horner was a Methodist clergyman, and so moved around a lot. He did have a son called Joseph George, but in 1806 he was only six years old, so not in a position to have a wife, you'll agree. I don't as yet know where William was posted at that time, but if I can get access to the church records somehow, it may just possibly help. You'll realise that by now the straw we're both clinging to is under a lot of strain! But that's genealogy for you. If I do find anything, I'll post it on the Horner website, so keep looking - I will!. Best of luck Eunice -----Original Message----- From: Peter Horner [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, 1 March 2006 10:01 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HORNER-L] Northern Ireland Hi Eunice, may I butt in and clutch at the other end of your straws? 3. Good morning Tony I was pretty excited when I saw your email, though I know that I'm clutching at straws, as my husband's Horners were not in the exact locations you mention. 'Our' William Horner is said to have been born in County Down in the Loch Strangford area around 1750, and was converted to Methodism by Wesley himself. He later moved, or was moved by some church committee, to England, where I've been able to trace him and his descendants without too much bother. Does this ring any bells with you? Any assistance will be most gratefully received, and if my information is of any help to you, I'd be very happy to share it with you. 3. Thank you so much for your replies on Lincoln Horner. I went into Rootsweb and found more than I ever expected. His full name is Joseph Lincoln Horner. Lincoln and his wife Emma lived in Sheldon, IA. They were born and married in Pennsylvania. If anyone who is interested, I have information on his granddaughter's, Thelma, Velda, Julie, Emma Jean and Viola Horner - daughters of Oscar Horner and Hazel Nash. 3. I made an error in my earlier email. I should have written that Daniel married Annie prob. Winnebago Co., WI not MN. F. Kay Hunter Roberts: I had no clue there were so many Isaac Horners in PA and VA. So far I have not found them in OH. I am guessing they had to travel through Ohio to get to IL, WI and MN. I am certain Daniel's father was Isaac b. ca 1797 in PA. If we was in Washington Co., PA that is only a hop, skip and a jump from Monogehela Co., VA. Part of the family was in Tyler and Wetzel Cos., VA then WV. I found a brief history of the Horner Family on a microfilm from the Family History Library. It is about the family of David Horner and Robert Horner, brothers, who settled in Mt. Joy Twp., York Co, now Adams, PA. about 1764. He married a Miss Love about that time. He died about 1804. He had seven sons: Alexander, James, Robert, David, William, Andrew and John. Also two daughters, Margaret and Polly. Alexander married Miss McAllen and settled first in Mt. Joy Twp. in 1795. He died June 12, 1831 at age 67. His wife died 1806. They had six children who are named. Alexander's descendants are the main emphasis of the history. This is a copy of an old document owned by Mrs. Robert H. Hrabeak, 452 N. Cedar St., Laramie, WY, copied and typed by Mrs. Carl. A. Cinnamon, William Clayton Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, Laramie, WY 1958. Connie
