Dear Eunice, thanks for the reply. One day, our family trees may show a connection, no matter how remote. Dear Peter My husband's Horner forbears were Methodist clergymen, who worked as missionaries in the Carribean, and in the course of my reseach I found that here were Horners (not ours) there in the 1690s! So maybe yours were very early world travellers? I am seeking further information regarding William H. HORNER. He married 1) Matilda LOFTEN or LOFTON on January 15, 1862, in Farmingdale, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He married 2) Jane TRUAX, January 6, 1866, at Shark River, Monmouth County, New Jersey. The second marriage record stated that he was a widower. In the 1880 Census for Neptune, Monmouth County, New Jersey, William H. HORNER was 37 years old and a farm laborer. His wife, Jane, was 39 years old. The children living with them in 1880 were: Annie (age 13), Elizabeth (age 11), and William R. (age 3). All these individuals were born in NJ, as were both of their parents. There were TRUAX families living on each side of the HORNERs. If anyone can provide more information on this family, please contact me. Regards, Margaret
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Geo & Alma WEDDLE. It appears to be their wedding photograph, probably taken in the early 1900's with Alma appearing to be in her 20's and Geo in his 40's at the time. In addition to their names, someone has also written, "cousins of mine live at Sweet Home, Oregon" and "Mother's oldest (Amos HORNER) Brother's daughter" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of George B. WEDDLE b. 28 Jan 1866 in Crawfordsville, OR to parents Josiah S. WEDDLE and Malinda Jane SWINK. On 24 Nov 1904 he married Alma E. HORNER in Wamic, OR and died 28 Jan 1958 in Sweet Home, OR. In 1880 the WEDDLE Family was living in Brush Creek, OR and was recorded in the census as follows: Josiah WEDDLE, age 49, born KY, a Farmer, parents born PA/VA Malinda WEDDLE, wife, age 36, born KY, parents born KY Eliza A. WEDDLE, dau, age 10, born KS Tessa WEDDLE, dau, age 6, born KS Albert WEDDLE, son, age 4, born OR Bessie WEDDLE, dau, age 1, born OR In 1900 George was living alone in Sweet Home, OR: George B. HORNER WEDDLE's family can also be traced through the census records as follows: 1900 census of Sweet Home, OR: Amos HORNER, age 41, born Dec 1858, married 22 years, born MO, parents born TN/AR, a Farmer Nancy B. HORNER, wife, age 38, born Aug 1861, married 22 years, 8 children/ 5 living, born OR, parents born ME/MO William R. HORNER, son, age 18, born Apr 1882, born OR, at School Alma E. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Carolyn, I have checked my HORNER file, and the only thing I found relating to your family are the following notes: Thomas LEE (b. 1797) married 1) Phoebe ALLEN. Their daughter, Elizabeth LEE, married Barzillai HORNER and removed to Brown County, IN, in the 1850's. Another daughter, Lydia LEE, married Benjamin HORNER, Ocean County area, around New Egypt. Unfortunately, I don't know the origin of these notes. Perhaps it may have been from something you posted earlier - I just don't know. If I learn anything more, I will let you know. Regards, Margaret
I'm hoping to find out where John Horner ended up. He lived in the Salem County/Gloucester County area of Southern New Jersey. He was born about 1805. He married Rachel Bowen of Salem County. She died around 1842. They had at least one child. Hannah Horner was born in 1832. John disappeared after the 1850 census in that area. Anyone recognize these people? There were quite a few John Horners in New Jersey around that time. Thanx, Harry Chambers Pitman, NJ
Dear Margaret; I have Horner's from this area also, but have no idea if there is a relationship. My earlies Horner was Brazilliar & Elizabeth Lee Horner. Brazilliar (sp?) was born about 1814. He moved between 1847-1849 from New Jersey to Indiana. After his wife died in Brown Co., IN in Jan 1882, he remarried & stated on his marriage appl. that his parents were John & Rachael Horner of Ireland. I do not have any idea who his sibblings were and cannot find his parents. Brazillia & Eliz. 10 children were: Charles b. abt. 1841/42 in NJ (idiot) Lucretta b. abt 1843 in NJ Abner b. abt 1845 in NJ Brazilla L. b. abt 1846 in NJ Gabreail Taylor b. 27 Oct 1847 (my decendant) Elizabeth Ann b. about Dec 1849 in Indiana & d. at 10 mo. old Calvin R. Horner b. abt. 1854 in Indiana Hannah M. b. on 22 Nov. 1856 in Indiana Samuel b. abt. 1858 in Indiana Thomas S. b. abt. 1860 in Indiana I have some more info to share if anything here looks familiar. My e-mail: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) please write Carolyn. (my mother was a Horner)
Does anyone have any information on Jeremiah HORNER, of Squankum, Monmouth County, who obtained a license to marry Rebecca MORFORD, daughter of John MORFORD and Margaret MORRIS, on September 25, 1761? Co-signer of the bond was William IMLAY of Bordentown, NJ. I am particularly interested in Jeremiah HORNER's ancestry and descendants. I have searched for many years for the ancestry of my Jacob HORNER, and this Jeremiah is in the right place and age to be my Jacob's grandfather. Regards, Margaret
