    3. Hello list, I could really use some help on my HORNER cousins. Ena Fay is a daughter of Mahulda HUTCHINS and Winfield Scott HORNER, m. abt 1896 in Texas. 1. [HORNER] Horner, Lee, Hopkins, etc
    2. Dear NJ Horners; I am researching Barzillia Horner's parents. He was born in NJ in 1812. He married in Burlington Co., NJ to Elizabeth Lee (d/o Thomas Lee) Her sister also married a Lee. I suspect he may be s/o Charles & Alice ? Horner, because he named his 1st son Charles & his fist daughter, Lucrecia. This Charles had a brother who was named Barzillia also & they were sons of Benjamin & Lucrecia Hopkins Horner. I am trying to confirm this as I have a family reunion at end of Sept. in Indiana regarding this family. Is any of this familiar to you? Barzillia Horner is my gg-grandfather. This branch of Horners have been very elusive, but he put on his 2nd marriage record, in his old age, that his parents were John & Rachael Horner from Ireland. I cannot find any Irish Horners. I have read much about the English Horners. Please reply to Carolyn O. [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) P.S. Thank you Bob F. for your information & help. I read it all. I have the Horners of Monmouth Co. here.

Anyway, I do have two Benjamin Horners in my line: 1. One Benjamin was the son of John and Hannah Horner. Benjamin worked as a fire insurance agent in Manchester, England and later in Boston, Mass.. He became ill while living in Boston and returned to Manchester where died on 6 May 1884. As far as I know, in talking with my English cousins, he died a bachelor. He was born in Salford [a suburb of Manchester] in October 1847. 2. A second Benjamin Sandford Horner, son of Richard Valentine Sandford Horner and Emma Horner. Benjamin was born 11 June 1880 in Salford. He married Rosalind Sarah Watts, age 23, daughter of Robert Watts (deceased), at Parish of St. Paul Church, Sculcoates, on 8 February 1903. He lived from 1915 to l936 at 9, Granville Avenue, Reynoldson Street, West Sculcoates, Hull. His occupation from 1915 to l936 was locomotive boiler tuber (railway). He died 19 March l936 at age of 55, at home on Granville Ave. The rest of the names you gave me: Charles, Barzillai, Gabriel, Taylor, George, Oscar, Wanda and Juanita Horner have not shown up in my research. Also, none of my Horners - to my knowledge - has ever lived in New Jersey or in Indiana. If you think any of this information is helpful, please feel free to ask any questions. If you believe your Horners came from Manchester, you might want to contact the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society. I have been a member of the Society for over 20 years, and they produce an excellent quarterly The Manchester Genealogist. I do hope you make contact with some cousins in England. I did over 20 years ago and have visited several of the cousins each year, and they are an interesting group. Finally, are you related to any of the Oberles who live in Port Charlotte or in Punta Gorda? My wife and I own a condo in Englewood, and that name rings a bell, but can't recall how I came across your name. 3. GLORIA - It's a small world. I am named after my grandfather who was born in Salford, England [next door to Manchester]. He immigrated to New York City in 1893. He married an Irish woman in Manhattan, and their son, [my father] married my mother whose maiden name was Waters. Her father was also an immigrant, from Birmingham. Consequently, I have met cousins on both sides of the family in England, and have thoroughly enjoyed my visits each year. What are the odds of someone else having Horners and Waters in their family trees? Jim Horner Lakeside Park, Kentucky On Nov 3, 2009, at 3:00 AM, [email protected] wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 1. Re: [HORNER] HORNER / HORNOR of NJ
    2. My Horner roots go back to my gr gr grandfather, Thomas Horner, born in Tuckerton, NJ about 1832/33. His father was Jeremiah according to his death certificate. We believe his mother was Sarah Gaskill but so far unable to confirm that. Have found Jeremiah and Sarah with a son Thomas of the right age, so assume that is true but would like to be able to verify it. church records of that time burned up, Family Bible burned up in house fire. Understand Trenton did not keep records that far back. Any suggestions or ideas? Carol Horner-Iacona Born in NJ, now in TX

    3. HORNER / HORNOR Listers, >From what I've been able to find out so far, there were two 1st Cousins in NJ, having left Long Island NY in the late 1690's. One was Isaac HORNER, known as the "Quaker Scribe " on L.I. NY. They both ended up in West Jersey and left a "big bunch" of descendants that scattered over New Jersey and points west. I have a lot of notes, and someday, hope to organize them in some way to make them make more sense. I descend from a female, Elizabeth HORNER (Mrs. Samuel) BOWKER (she born ca 1760+). Think I know some of her siblings but not her parents. Just want to keep my finger in until I can get to my HORNER research. Robert A. 3. I know there are many Horner's and know some came to the New World in the 1600's. If my branch from NJ is connected, it is sure to be "way" back! They sure did a lot of migrating over the years. Gloria, it has to be an interesting reunion that your son will be having next month. That family chart that he has done was a lot of work on his part. I wish him a lot of success at the reunion and hope he finds more "tid-bits" to add to his research. You, yourself, are fortunate to have so much info on the Water's family. It's rather nice to hear about someone who has been able to trace and document so much about their own family. He works as an archivist and genealogist at the Nabb center. He's knows his Horner's arrived into the Virginia area. Unfortunately, every time he finds another member, there's all the connections to figure in. For a Christmas family dinner with mostly Horner's he has a huge chart printed, it's probably at least 8' by 4' and everyone he has with the direct connections are there. Every year, he has another "layer" to add. I suspect the Horner's are drawn from many families from many places, and arrived during a stretch of time, in a variety of places. I'm a bit lucky, in that my direct ancestor, Waters, came to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, I think I have that year right, it's the 16th or 19th, but 1616 never looks right when I type it. I've actually been to where he was when he died in, well, I've been the village, and the church, as he returned to England, and his will was done there. Unfortunately, none of the graves from the 1600's remained, but there are documents there concerning him, and we know what happened to his 2 children and widow back in Virginia. 3. Gloria: The possibility of Horner relations in MD might be off base, but you just never know. The Horner surname is as bad as Smith! You are right about the large families. I am aware of the Horner clan that was from Tadcaster, Eng., but I have never been able to make a direct connection, at least not one that I can prove at this point. It would sure help a lot if one only knew one/some of the siblings of John Horner. At one time another researcher said that there might be a connection to a Wm. Horner of MD., but again, no proof. Thanks for replying and I appreciate you taking the time to talk to your son.
