I hope someone will able to assist me. My name is William Edward Hooker, III (b. 12/02/1969) I am the son of William Edward Hooker, Jr. (b. 5/10/44) and Sallie Ruth Lide His parents were William Edward Hooker, Jr. (b.10/19/1896, d. 11/4/1959) and Eunice Theresa Davis His parents were William Andrew (Billy) Hooker (b. 2/19/1855, d. 8/14/1925) and Salome (Lone) DeShazo (b. 3/8/1864, d. 5/31/1949) The earliest William who married a DeShazo lived in Shelby County, near Oak Mountain and later in Montevallo. My grandfather was considerably older than my grandmother when they married. He died when my father was 15, and my grandmother remarried. My grandfather had one brother and five sisters: Sallie (never married) (b. 9/23/1885, d. 9/19/1977) Floyd (b. 8/26/1890, d. 4/1/1948) Nena Emma Esther Eldice After my parents married, my mother began trying to research my father's side of the family, to be able to pass it along to their children. She began with my great-aunts. They were very vague and offered no explanation. The excuse was "they had been away from Shelby County so long they couldn't remember." My mother surmised there must have been some embarassing event or deep dark secret. Now, as an adult interested in my Hooker heritage, I can't seem to get past the ancestor born in 1855. Census records from 1820-1850 note Hookers in Franklin and Greene Counties. I would appreciate any info available to help me continue further back. Thanks, Ed Hooker Mobile, Alabama [email protected]
