Dear Friends, Please excuse these multiple postings which I have made for the following reasons For some weeks now, I have been concerned about the major variations in quantity of mail from some of these lists I have queried some of these lists and been advised that it is summer and people are busy and out of school and on vacation and all those good things and thank you for this advice. There is a serious problem with one list which I am working on with the Listowner but a review of incoming mail over the last three days has prompted this latest action as follows. This is list of all the lists to which [email protected] is subscribed to in the Rootsweb environment. For each one, I have given a general idea of what transactions are taking place and I ask a few questions at the end of the list. I have abbreviated some of the e-mail addresses to save time and space. BACKUS-L usual small quantity of mail BEDFORD-L usual moderate amount BUCKS-L usual moderate amount COMPUTERS-L very little mail over the last two weeks ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L usual small amount of mail ENG-SHEFFIELD-L usual moderate amount of mail GAMBLE-L usual small amount of mail HOOKER-L usual small amount of mail OUTLOOK-EXPRESS-L this is the problem area which I am working on with Robert Hays, the Listowner. Basically, I am sure that I am getting any mail at all from this eloquent list. There are issues as to the extent to which my mail is being blocked by a spam blocker named 'blackhole'. I will expand on this to other names on the same list if interest is shown. ROWNEY-L this is a very recent subscribe (about 4 weeks) but we have not received any mail. VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L It is far from clear whether I am getting any mail from this very very eloquent and useful list, Certanly none in the past few days whereas the usual quantity could be as many as twenty per day. The next three were our first subscribes to Rootsweb lists. WEST-RIDING-L Not much mail at all compared with former volumes. WINDOWS-FOR-DUMMIES-L Again, very little mail. YORKSGEN-L I am sure that listers on this one would be proud to know that this is my highest volume list on Rootsweb. Leaving the sin of pride on one side, mail does come through but not very often and no significant volume. Overall from these lists and from other mail, we expect to get 100 to 150 messages a day with very little spam. From 2 pm on Wednesday July 17 to about the same time on the following day, we got 22 messages. There have been other days of low volume. I sense that others are having concerns about their mail so I welcome input to this string from any other users. I can't offer technical competence in solving any problems. I know that rootsweb is going through changing servers trauma and my sympathy is extended. I know that I can check mail on the rootsweb archives. All responses gratefully received.
