I believe VA required the parents permission of anyone under 21. NC may have had a younger age limit. Isham's age looks like 18, and even though both of his parents and there place of residence was given, nothing is entered in the "permission" area of the certificate. Also notice they were married at the home of the JP (Joseph White) that married them. The two White witnesses are no doubt part of Joseph White's family.
