He migrated there in 1840 as a single 19 year old. There he married Martha (Justice) Dement, a widow, who had a son , born in1845, named Columbus F Dement. They had four children born in MS before they migrated to Hunt Co, TX in 1854. After the Civil War, Thomas migrated to Hill Co, TX, then to Erath Co, TX where he died 20 Mar 1902 and is buried at Duffau, Erath Co, TX. This Thomas Hooker (1821-1902) is the only child of Thomas (c1778-1831)& Sarah Hooker of Smith Co,TN who ever came through MS to TX. All the others migrated TN>MO>TX or TN>TX. By 1860 they had settled the Hooker Ridge community in Hunt Co,TX. I have always wondered why Thomas (1821-1902) went to Pontotoc Co,MS? None of our family history mentions any relations there.........However, by the late 1800's Wm Powell Hooker Jr has migrated from Pontotoc Co, MS to Wood Co, TX, (borders Hunt Co on the East). Yantis area they settled in is about 25 miles (as the crow flies) NE of Hooker Ridge community. ( Hooker Ridge community in present day Raines Co). Wm Powell desendants still live in the Yantis, TX area. ........and another however....John (1792-1879) & Mary A. (Reed) Hooker migrated to Hopkins Co, TX in 1874 with dau & son-in law, Roddy J & Emersley Catherine (Hooker) Wickers from Hardin Co,TN. Hopkins Co joins Wood Co on the South and Hunt Co on the West. Surely there is some family tie here. Data I have to date points to John Hooker (1786 census Granville Co, NC) as being the PROBABLE father of John Jr (d Granville Co 1800), William (d Smith Co, TN 1807), Thomas (c1778-1831 Smith Co, TN), Absalom (c1783-1860-70), James (c1781-d29 July 1847 Greenville Co, SC....desendants still in Greenville area.) Darrell Hooker indicated at one time ,he thought his line may have connection to Granville Co. This would be Geo, father of Wm Powell Hooker Sr,I think. John Hooker Jr, in 1786 census of Granville Co, has 3 males 21-60(assumed sons) who are gone from household by 1800. John Jr married Elizabeth Bradford c1780. Could Geo have been their son? I have tried to follow you'alls postings on the 6 brothers, but didn't understand the McNairy Co, TN court case defining all 6 as brothers. Paul Jackson Hooker

    3. I have written to you privately about this before - remember you sent me the info on the Wm and Thomas in Williamson Co., TN(1801-1818 (Darrell found the tax list going through 1818 - you had sent me the tax list up to 1813). This Wm and Thomas, who I believe to be "mine"/two of our "6 brothers" - these two were b late 1770s in NC. they leave Williamson Co.,TN c 1818 the exact tiem our Thomas nad Wm move to Franklin Co.,AL. There are no other Thoams and Wms in TN at that time who are not claimed/documented, and no one claims these 2 except us/me - our line! The other 4 were tied together with these 2 due to their moves together - Smauel (b c 1783 in NC), Robert(b c 1787 in NC/TN) and George (b 1787 in NC) moved to KY together by 1807 (Hopkins Co., KY). All living side by side there - all state b NC except Robert who soemtimes states b TN and sometimes b NC! (Samuel goes back to TN (from KY) c 1808 and marries a Nolan girl there c 1810 and has his first son in TN c 1812 - there are many Nolans in Williwmson Co.,TN - in fact most Nolens/Nolands in TN are in that Co. at that time.) Then at the exact same time That Thomas nad Wm move from TN to AL c 1817/1818 Samuel and George move to Franklin Co., AL from KY and live by Wm. and Thomas (whose older children were all b TN between 1800-1817). Thomas lived right by Samuel B Hooker in Franklin CO., AL in 1820 and Wm lived by George indicating a close relationship there. They all named their chidoren almost identical names. Thomas had one son and some duaghters b AL, but all his other chidoren were b TN before 1818. Wm had his eldest children b in TN before 1818 - no sons b AL. The court casee from 1875 in Mc Nairy Co.,TN states Samuel and John are brothers and that their children and George's are cousins - none of Wm or Thomas' children were involved in the court case which was between Samuel's sons over land one had sold to one of George's g-sons (and later involved George's son, James N Hooker and another of James' sons in the sale). The court case uses the term "2nd" cousins to tie George's g-sons to Samuel's sons, but they meant "first cousin once-removed"!! as Samuel's sons and George's g-sons were in two different generations. John was the only one who we (our line, Darrell, etc.) were not sure about previously to finding the court case, as he was so much younger (b 1792 in TN) and always stated b Tn. This John was the one who died in Hopkins Co.,TX 1879. He could have been the son of a 2nd, younger wife but was definitley brother to Samuel (b c 1783 in NC), et al. George being b 1786 in NC might fit with that John,jr in Granville Co., NC, but the two older brothers (Thoams and Wm) being b c 1777 would not unless John, jr had an earlier wife?? By 1786 there would have been 4 males in this family - with another b 1787 (George). Robert b c 1786 often states b TN so we feel they were living on the TN/NC border when he was born - maybe that county which was in NC one day and TN the next. Washington Co., NC became Washington Co., Tn overnight - as well as some other places along that TN/NC line which went into TN from NC as TN gained statehood. I am sure we will find, as I have often stated, that your Hookers and ours are related and that they knew it back then. Wm Powell was also said to have been cousins with the John (b c 1797) in VA whose g-daughter married Wm Powell's son, Wm P., jr. Indicating that our line of 6 brothers had VA heritage. So 3 lines of Hookers were in Potontoc Co., MS within a 20 yr perios from 1850-70. Our 6 brothers seem to fit in, name-wise with the VA Hookers; Robert and George being big Hooker given names in the VA line but not in the NC lines so much - Samuel was also used a lot in VA. I had told Joyce that the Thomas in Potontoc Co., MS in 1850 was the one from Smith Co.,TN - how about the James in Hunt Co.,TX c 1870/1880? The one Charlotte posted on? Is he onw of yours? I know besides this Thomas other cousins of his went to Hunt Co.,TX about that time from Smith Co., TN . Glad you posted on this Thomas. Also we now know this Columbus was not b a Hooekr, Joyce!
