    3. Well, I thought I would have a little time but the guys are still here refinishing floors etc so I have only been able to look one time at all this. You probably already know-there was a Hooker (2 actually) in Brooke Co, VA in the early 1800s. This Brooke Co. is actually in West VA today and came out of Ohio Co. One was a Richard Hooker and I am going to try and link the various censuses and times and VA/NC/West VA when things settle down. The name that continues to intrigue me is Gabriel Hooker (once indexed as Gabrek). I know the one in the 1850s was Jack's and there was a much earlier one. It is certainly not the usual Hooker name--like Godfrey and Symon Anyway sometimes just writing things down makes everything clearer. -----Original Message----- From: hooker-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:hooker-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Adella Holly Sent: Saturday, December 02, 2006 12:05 PM To: hooker@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HOOKER] Samuel HOOKER b. bet. 1824-1828 VA?attenSharon Sharon, We did have the info you list below, I just oculd not access it on my computer from the web site it was on (my computer being old). Charlotte had the original marriage cert. from this marriage - what we are trying to do is tie this Samuel to either the family of Jack's Wm Hooker (b c 1755 in NC) who came into VA in the ealry 1800s from (NW) NC or to the family of the Samuel listed in Patrick Co., VA in 1820 living next to Charlotte's Esom (this Samuel is most probably the father of Esom (b c 1796 in VA and John (b c 1797 in VA). This Samuel is much older than Esom in 1820 and living next door. Then this John and Esom move to TN and live side by side by 1830. This is going to probably be a link to my 6 Hooker brothers and also to the Randolph Co., NC Hooekrs who use the same names - including using Isham as a name (in Randolph Co., NC) in about the same generation as this Isham - their other given names are similar to other VA Hookers and to my line of 6 brothers. And the dates are also similar - Jack Hookers chidlren were b about the same time as Esom and John in the late 1700s and also about the same time as our 6 brothers - seems they could all be close cousins. These western VA and western NC guys could all be closely related descended from the Hookers who stayed in VA until about the 1750s when some might have just slipped across into Surrey and Stokes Cos in NC. They could have not even known they were going into NC - just folloed the Dan River south a ways - their land could have even sretched over the state line. This would make these Hookers closely related to each other and more distantly relate to Wm "I's" line (they might descend from Hookers in his line who stayed in VA when he crossed over in the late 1600s into eastern NC). I feel still that we all may ultimately be related back in early VA - but these western NC Hookers share names that the western VA Hookers used and the eastern line from Wm "I" did not use as much - ie: George, Robert, Samuel, and now Isham. Sharon, did you ever get an e-mail back from the archives of the Episcopal Church in Austin, TX? Did they send you a direct e-address for themselves? You sent me a phone #, but I thought myabe an e-mail might be easier/less expensive for me - you never said if they replied from the actual Archives in TX?? 3. Yes, as soon as you can let us know about the earlier Gabriel - this could be another link as I feel that Jack's Hookers (who came into Patrick Co., VA from NW NC in the early 1800s) were originally from VA and just slipped over the line at some point c 1750s - the Dan River flows from VA (the Patrick Co.,area) into what was Surrey Co., NC and what I think later became Stokes Co., NC so it owudl be easy for them to go over that "line" in those days. If we can fnd a Gabriel early on in VA that is another clue that Jack's Hookers were origially from VA (that it was a family name) - as they must have been at some time, of course, but maybe that will pin down the time/family line they came from. In our Hooker "6 brothers" line we do not use Godfrey or Simon but do use Robert, James, Wm., Samuel, and George (and of course John and Thomas). That is why I feel this VA line and ours are connected as our given names and theirs are "closer" than ours are to your Wm "I"'s line from eastern NC (early 1700s) and previously eastern VA c 1600s. Of course I feel they will all connect to the early VA Hooekrs in the early 1600s if we get back that far - Wm "I" had ot have left other reltives in VA when he "crossed the line" in the late 1600s - those Hookers probably moved westward within VA as that area opened up. So the original line/family diverged c late 1600s when your Wm "I" crossed into NC and soem of the names began to differ then as they used names fromt eh mother's side or friends' and neighbors' names for their children's given naems. Did you ever hear fromt he Episcopal Archives - an e-address??
