Hello Adele James HOOKER was living in Tottenham,Middlesex , in 1851 Census, he was aged 35yrs,occupation Labourer , with his wife Eliza aged 29yrs and 2 children James HOOKER son aged 5years and Eliza HOOKER daughter 2 yrs both were born Tottenham,. Middlesex. Mine came from Eng. into VA in the U S in the 1600s, it seems. If we can get the proof back to early 1600s in VA then maybe in the records of the early settlements/settlers we can make the jump "over the pond" back to Eng - so far we are stuck c 1770s in North Carolina. Did you find some other Hookers still living in the area (Sussex?) that James was in in 1841? or in 1851? Wish there was some way to access the earlier censuses in the U K even just for Head of Household names - we use the ealy censuses here in the U S - pre 1850 - for Head of House names and that helps even though no ophter names are lsited on the early censuses.
