Hi Adella, So is this Thomas that you are speaking of the Rev. Thomas Hooker? My Hooker line comes from MA, CT, VT with my ggrandfather moving to Chicago in 1852. My Hooker wives come from NY and MI along with VT, CT, and MA. This is the furthest back I have gotten so far: Daniel Hooker (son of Jacob Hooker and Mary Farr) was born June 25, 1750 in Littleton, Middlesex Co., Mass., and died February 15, 1817 in Brandon, VT. He married Mary Gates on April 24, 1773 in Stow, Mass., daughter of Silas Gates and Mary Daby. Notes for Daniel Hooker: DAR Patriot Index 1966, Daniel Hooker b: 6-25-1750, Fought in Revolutionary War W/ Capt. Amasa Armstongs' Co. National serial # 126178. Died of cancer of the mouth. Buried in Brandon, VT Daniel came to Brandon in 1800. More About Daniel Hooker: Burial: February 17, 1818, Brandon, VT. More About Daniel Hooker and Mary Gates: Marriage: April 24, 1773, Stow, Mass.. Children of Daniel Hooker and Mary Gates are: 1.. Sarah Hooker, b., Bolton, Mass., d. date unknown. 2.. Silas Hooker, b. July 21, 1775, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. February 08, 1846. 3.. +John Hooker, b. April 24, 1778, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. April 16, 1860, Perrysburg, Cattaraugus, Co., NY. 4.. Molly Hooker, b. July 06, 1780, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. date unknown. 5.. +Daniel Hooker, b. October 28, 1782, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. December 06, 1860, Goshen, Addison Co., CT. 6.. +Jacob Hooker, b. September 24, 1785, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. November 25, 1863, Perrysburg, Cattaraugus, Co., NY. 7.. +Stephen Hooker, b. May 13, 1787, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. 1856. 8.. Salmon Hooker, b. August 28, 1791, Bolton, Mass., d. date unknown. 9.. Luke Hooker, b. September 05, 1795, Stow, Middlesex, Mass., d. date unknown. I believe that their son Stephen Hooker is the father of Stephen G. Hooker, my gggrandfather, who moved to Chicago, IL in 1852. So actually I know as far back as Jacob and Mary Hooker. It sounds like there are so many lines and then I read that there are really just two or three... Rev. Thomas', Rev. Joseph (his cousin?) and the Hookers who settled in the South in the 1800's. Is this correct? Linda M. Lathrop ----- Original Message ----- From: Adella Holly To: hooker@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, September 24, 2007 11:41 AM Subject: Re: [HOOKER] Question/Atten Charles M. I think I am the only one who writes into the Hooker list who is working on this direct line (from Thomas). I descend from one of Allen's daughters, George Ann (b 1834 in AL). I also write to one of Calvin's descendants and some of Wm R Hooker's, as well. We are looking for other descendants of these other children of Thomas, as well as looking for decendants of Wm., also b late 1770s in NC. (His children were Robert, Wm C, Seth and probably Samuel N. - all b Tn before 1818). We are as certain as we can be that these (below) are Thomas' children. We feel his wife Sarah had the maiden name "Calvin" as that name is passed down in this family but not in the other Hooker brothers' families. There is also a probable brother to Allen, etc., named Samuel who married stayed in TN as Thomas and Wm moved to AL c 1818. This Samuel is in Lawrence Co.,TN in 1820 and 1830, and later one of his daughters moved to LA to live with her probable uncle, Alfred, there after 1840. I also write to a descendant of this Samuel. Sarah (b c 1825) below could be a g-daughter of Thomas' - daughter of one of his older sons. She is living with Thomas and Sarah in 1850. We are not certain of this relationship - I will check back on the census again to see if in 1840 he had a daughter who could have been tis Sarah b c 1825. I have been away from genealogy since this spring and had no home computer for a while since May. The older children of Thomas (b c 1777 in NC) were all b in TN. He and Wm. moved to AL c 1818 from TN. I think you have my e-address ffrom before so you can write me direct. As far as I know I am the only one working on this line this far back. Some descendants form George, Samuel, John and Robert are also working on those lines from those brothers. They are all my 5th and 6th cousins, and I write to the ones who are working on these Hookers on-line, Let me hear from you again, Celeste PS We do not know if this Thomas had "B" as a middle initial - two other Thomas' in the other Hooker brother's lines did have this middle initial, as did Samuel one of Thomas' younger brothers. I do not think this Thomas (b c 1777) had a "B" middle initial. adellaholly@yahoo.com --- Charles Mallette <cmmallette@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > Hi All, > > I'm back, sort of. No, as I wrote you before my Hookers are the southern branch that came in through VA/Jamestown, probably. They came earlier than the MA Hookers but may be related back in Eng prior to the early 1600s! The name Thomas is used in all the Hooker lines, but George, Samuel and, of course, Esom are fairly rare to any but these VA Hookers who gravitated from eastern VA to western VA/Patrick Co.,VA. The only crossover between the southern branch and northern/MA Hookers is in the area of IL and OH where one or two Hooker males moved into those areas in the mid-1800s from KY or TN. There could be some of those few Hookers from my line who connected in some way to the MA branches, but if so none has been confirmed. I was researching on ancestry.com last night and found some Hookers in OH that were distantly related to my Hookers. One was John Overton Hooker, his son Royal D. Hooker. They both had a bunch of children also...like 9 or 10 each. Both married twice although second wives didn't have children from what I found. Male names in my line in the first few generations from my Dad were: Preston Nash Hooker who changed his name to James Preston Farrell (interesting how Preston was his mother's maiden name & Nash was his Grandmother's middle name Helen Nash Norton) George Graves Hooker Stephen G. Hooker Edward/Edwin C. Hooker Chester Wm. Hooker Jerome Beardsley Hooker Robert Jerome Hooker Clarence Hooker Rolla Hooker (not sure if male) Francis "Frannk" Wheeler Wadsworth, Sr and Jr. known as "Waddy" a jazz musician in Chicago in 20's Daniel Gates Hooker ----- Original Message ----- From: Adella Holly To: hooker@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 3:12 PM Subject: Re: [HOOKER] Adella and list No, as I wrote you before my Hookers are the southern branch that came in through VA/Jamestown, probably. Folks, I wanted to let you all know about the Hooker DNA project that is being done through WorldFamilies. My brother and a Hooker male cousin are waiting for results. We need more Hookers to take this test. If you order through the Hooker Project you get a much reduced price for the test than if you order it elsewhere or even directly through the company Worldfamilies is using. Here is their link: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hooker/index.html Please consider doing a test. If you are interested in genealogy which you all must be since you are here, this can answer a question for you by putting you in touch with a relative. And, if you are female, just get a male brother, cousin, uncle, father, etc. to take the test for you. His results would be yours. Hurray for Hookers! Linda Lathrop
