Hi Celeste, Yes, I have used the comparing of names of siblings, parents and grandparents. I have our tree tentatively figured out back to Jacob Hooker and Mary Farr, parents of Daniel Hooker who married Mary Gates. Now remember this Jacob Hooker and Mary Farr are NOT the ones that are in just about everyone's Trees. They were from the late 1600's and were too old to be Daniel's parents since he was born in 1750. His father, Jacob, was born in 1720. Some of the names that come up repeatedly down to my grandfather's family are Chester W., Mercy, William, Stephen (of course), Cornelia, Daniel, Edward, Graves, Gardner, Wadsworth, Abigail and more. They keep popping up the same. The 3 little children of Spicer Hooker, that died as toddlers, were buried with Stephen and Abigail (Goss) Hooker in Buffalo St. Cemetery in NY. It is now razed. I believe that Stephen Hooker Sr, is the father of my gggrandfather, Stephen G. Hooker. Spicer was, I believe, a cousin or nephew of Stephen Hooker Sr. A great number of Hookers are buried in the Cottage Cemetery in NY and those records are online. I think we are related to most of them in one way or another. What line are all these people from? I'm not sure but I think we fit somewhere in Rev. Thomas' line. I didn't see anything familiar in Joseph's line...at least what I saw of it. If I never find out what line we are from, that is ok. I'd like to know but just knowing from the DNA testing that we are Hookers is great! I have found more about my direct line by exploring all the possible relatives of my line - ie: certain given names that are unusual which pop up in family lines - like Charlotte's Esom/Esam. Then the occurance of that given name in anoother Hooekr family in the same area.. Also, when several people living close to each other (with the same surname) name all their children the same exact given names, and then one finds that those are the names of ther brothers/sisters of the parents/g-parents - showing a rrelationship. Have you searched all the census records for people of the same surnames in the towns/localities where your "furthest back" ancestors lived. You mentioned Stowe, MA and also VT?? The census records have been the best source for our Hookers and also some land/tax records. Just soem thoughts, Celeste test'; "> ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. The Jacob Hooker and Mary Farr - how did you find them - how did you verify that connection, and what yrs are we talking about again? - I know you said the dates for both sets of these names (for those couples) - just want to be sure I have the dates for your set right. Sometimes people know a name; it is say their g-g-grandparents, but they write it down in a tree or somewhere as the g-grandparents as they were just told by family that was "someone's" grandparents. In other words they confused the names and the generations. I have talked to people this has happened to (esp in on-line "trees"). In one of the lines I work on there were 3 males of the same first and last name over 2 generations, and people got them mixed up as to whom went with which direct line. Keep researching - it has taken yrs for several of us in our line to get some of our info , and we still have not gotten a direct link to the generation b c 1777 back to their parents who were probably b c 1750s. Well, it was a well known fact and in many family trees online and all the genealogy sites that Jacob Hooker and Mary Farr were the parents of Daniel Hooker. And there were about 5 generations with the same names of these three in a row. The Jacob and Mary Farr that have been believed to be this Daniel Hooker's parents were born back in the 1600s which was too early for them to be the parents of my Daniel Hooker, born in Littleton, Mass, (who died fight in the Rev. War). So I did alot of research and found out that there were people with the same names every generation for at least 5. I found the couple that were born in the right time frame to be my Daniel's parents...born around 1720. I found online a copy of the Littleton, Mass birth records showing my Daniel being born at the right time with the right parents. Daniel moved to VT at some time, Brandon to be exact, and that was where he lived and died. The Stephen Hooker that I think is my ggggrandfather was born in Brandon, VT and married to Abigail Goss. They had two twin boys named William G. and Daniel G. that died as little toddlers and are buried in the Buffalo St. Cemetery which doesn't exist anymore. Buried with them was Daniel G. Hooker who died in 1817 amd born in 1750. I believe he was their grandfather since one of them was named after him. Stephen and Abigail had other children...another William G, a Stephen, a Sarah, a Luke and one or two more that I can't remember off the top of my head. They are in my tree. I believe the son Stephen is my gggrandfather. I don't know positively because there is no birth cert for him in VT. We had it checked. They said he was probably born at home and that there wasn't one. But looking at the time frames and going backwards into the past and with the same names being used (at least some of them) as my grandfathers cousins, etc. it just seems to fit. My brother and I are hoping to go back VT next Spring or Fall and see if maybe we can find church records or something for our Stephen. Also, our second cousin 1xremoved that my brother matched on DNA said his daughter in Maine has an old trunk full of family papers, photos, etc. No one has looked at it for ages apparently. She is now going through it and will be sending us copies of everything in it. So maybe we will find something about Stephen. We will be keeping our fingers crossed.
