    1. Re: [HOOKER] some questions
    2. My guess is that your Stephen is going to tie into one of those two families. I don't have my files handy, but I do remember the name of John Hooker Wood of Chicago. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Beverly Helton was researching this branch of Joseph Hooker of MA family. I think she has posts on the genforum board. As I think I told you before my Hooker line is very well documented to my gggrandfather Stephen G. Hooker of Chicago, IL. He moved there in the 1850s with his wife Helen Norton Hooker from NY where they were married. Stephen was born in VT. Now I "think" Stephen G. Hooker is the son of Stephen Hooker and Abigail Goss. This Stephen is the son of Daniel Hooker and Mary Gates. I think Daniel's father was Jacob Hooker. There are places that state that Daniel Hooker was born in Germany but that is not true. He was born in New England. So if we go by what you have stated, where does my line fit in? My brother did the Hooker DNA testing and we have his results. We are waiting for our second cousin, last remaining male Hooker, who is the ggrandson of Stephen G. Hooker. You said the Hookers from IL went to WA? Who were these Hookers? Can you give me a name of the first. I actually live now in WA state and could probably either rule them out for my line or see if they do fit in. Hope to figure this out. thanks, Linda Lathrop Jmw1431@aol.com wrote: The reason it's mostly southerners that query on the list is because the northern families are very well documented. The family that went to IL and then to WA is the family of Joseph Hooker. The Hartford family is that of Rev. Thomas Hooker. Both of these families are well documented. The southern Hookers on the other hand, with the exception of the William Hooker family of VA/NC, is less documented. Seems like we get to VA and hit a brick wall. Just thought I'd add my two cents worth. Joyce In a message dated 11/24/2007 12:36:46 P.M. From the 1630s to the later 19th century, My Hooker-connected names are those of Hartford's founding families. Does anyone share these lines? If I only post to the email list, do those emails show up on the forum board here? Also, it seems that most of the questions and discussion on this forum and the list are for the "Southern" Hookers and not the "Northern" Hookers who settled in VT, CT, NY and then spread out to IL, IN, MI. I am wondering if perhaps there should be two groups...one for each since they seem so separate. I also have Norton, Nash, Preston, Wadsworth, Beardsley,Graves, Gardner, Goss, Carver Gates surnames in my Hooker line. I had listed before that my brother has done the Hooker DNA test and we are close to getting the DNA results for our second cousin who is an 80 year old Hooker. Results are posted at WorldNetFamilies and FamilyTreeDNA.
