Celeste, I have Ancestry.com and NEGHS subscriptions. I don't look for all my info online on this list. I am on many other lists also. I have called many historical societies and cemeteries and paid for copies of wills, deeds, birth, death and marriage certificates. I have bought other vital records info online from private sellers which is what led me to figure out that the wrong Daniel and Mary Gates and Jacob and Mary Farr were being said to be the correct ones for the time period. I have paid for 2 DNA tests for my brother and a second cousin we discovered through calling a Chicago cemetery about our Hookers buried there. As I have said, we matched on all 25 markers and have all paper source backup also. My brother and I spent alot of time and effort and money to prove we were Hookers when we found out about this. I have also paid quite a bit for copies of old newspaper articles. I stay up most of the night and a good part of the day searching online for any and all info. I have also discovered another third cousin who I think is on this list but I am not sure. It might be the VT list. We have helped each other with info and found out we were related both to Daniel Hooker who was born in Littleton, MA and not Germany as many people thought. I also spent several hours searching for that book "A Man is a Man: a Hooker Family Saga" and finally found it amazingly in Salem, OR which is about 1 1/2 hours from me. I will have that here by the weekend. So please don't assume that I am just sitting here expecting you all to do my work. I also am working on two of my sister-in-law's family Trees and also two friend's Trees. ----- Original Message ----- From: Adella Holly To: hooker@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 11:31 AM Subject: Re: [HOOKER] atten: Linda L Yes, I did tell you about the book some time ago, and no, all questions are welcome. One must follow through with the suggestions that are made. Yes, the archives of this list are accessible on Rootsweb; go to "mail lists" and "archives," and they are listed by year, etc. But lots has been posted on Joseph Hoker on the other free sites such as Genforum and Rootsweb "trees" - I think that is called World Connect. Also, some things can be found free on genealogy.com and even some things are free on Ancestry.com. As I have siad before some public libraraies have access to Ancestry.com for their patrons; check the ones around you. Eventually, if we ever get back to Eng. on this list/our lines we will all probably be connected - as it is we are all stalled somewhere after arriving in this country. Many of us have been working for yrs and still are just back to the late 1700s/with proof, so one has to be patient and keep working oneself on whatever one can find in libraries and on-line. The interchange is good, but one has to do a lot of looking besides on this list!!
