    3. Gerald--All I have on the kidnapping incident of young John Hooker was found in "State Records of North Carolina," Vol. 20, pp. l48, l53, 201, 332, 376, 382-83. On p. 376, dated Dec. 6, l787, it says" "The Committee on Propositions and Grievances to whom the Petition of Jonathan Hooker, reports that in the year l769 John Hooker, brother of the Petitioner, an infant of Twelve years old, was seduced and carried off to the Mosquito Shore in New Spain in America by a certain Abram Jennett; that the said Jonathan Hooker, next of kin and Heir apparent to the said John Hooker, who by devise was possessed of l80 acres of land in the county of Tyrrell in fee simple, that the Commissioner of Confiscated Estates for the District of Edenton, on the --day of ----, 78-, under and by virtue of the Law commonly called Confiscation Laws, exposed and sold the aforesaid Land at Public Vendue; the said NATHAN HOOKER became the purchaser as he believed in justice the land was not confiscated, and that the General Assembly could remove the Grievance..." The peitioner is referred to as Nathan or Jonathan in these records. But is was Nathan. The petition was presented by B. Spruill, who m. Rosanna (Swain) Hooker, after the death of her first husband, Stephen, in l767. Also, Stephen's l766 will listed two sons, John and Nathan. In the will, John did receive, "by devise," certain lands that Stephen had earlier purchased. Rosanna (Swain) Hooker Spruill had a brother, James Swain, who m. Ann Jennett, dau. of Abraham/Abram Jennett. Kyle
