This is my HOOKER family. Part #1 John Perry Hooker was born in 1821 in SC. He appears in SC Kershaw CO, census in 1840 (US) and in the 1843 state census. Previous research from other sources reports that he was married to Matilda (Smith?) who could have been part Cherokee. Her birth year is recorded as 1819. This previous research also indicates a migration from SC through NC, TN with the family finally settling in GA. The census for the SC period lists two adult males who are believed to be his younger brothers, Joseph M., and Moses. Joseph is still listed with this household along with his wife Elefare (Jones?) in 1850. Moses was the adventurer and left at some point heading west in search of gold. He may have been located as M. Hooker in CA SUTTER CO 1850 census, though serious research hasn't proven the M is for Moses, yet.(search continues in this area.) More information will follow in Part#2. If you can add to this, please do so. I am looking for any connections to this family within this time frame or earlier. I would like names of parents, and definite birthplaces and dates.
