    3. Rose, The person we commonly designate as William Hooker, I, who d. in Chowan Precinct, Albemarle Co., North Carolina, in 1717, had two wives. I believe he was b. ca. 1660. The first wife was Bridgett Foy[e], who d. ca. 1692, Virginia. See York Co., VA, Deeds, Orders, Wills, etc., 1691-1694, part 1. I believe that there were 3 children by this marriage; l. Bridgett, b. ca. 1687 2.William, Jr., b. ca. 1689 3.Godphrey, b. ca. 1691 William then married Ann --------, ca 1693. They were listed as husband and wife in 1694 in a Surry Co., VA, Orders, 1691-1713, reel 29, p. 115, and in Surry Co., VA, Deeds, Wills, 1694-1709, Reel 3, pp. 27b, and 28a. I list the following as their children: 4. Ann, b. ca. 1694 5. Margaret, b. ca. 1696 6. Jane, b. ca. 1698 7. Elizabeth, b. ca. 1700 Of course, Ann Hooker is listed as the wife of William in his 1716 will. All 7 of the above children are listed in his will. I am currently investigating the Lassiter connection. Do you believe William Hooker, Jr.,'s wife was a Lassiter? I will be happy to send you a copy of the Percy Hooker chart. Just let me know your mailing address. The Charles Holloman manuscript on Hooker was prepared for Hooker descendant in Mississippi. Let me know if you would like a copy. The late Malcolm Hooker, in his book, came to the conclusion that William Hooker I was married twice, first to Bridgett Foye and second to Ann ------. He recognized that there were some Hooker researchers who believed that William I only had one wife, Ann, who was the mother of all of the children. Malcolm Hooker also came to the conclusion that William Hooker I, was actually the son of an earlier William Hooker who appears in Virginia records in 1657. This earlier William may have been the son of a Thomas and Bridgett Hooker of Virginia. To confuse matters further, Malcolm also pointed out that some believe that the William Hooker of 1657 was indeed the father of William Hooker I who d. 1717, but the earlier William had 2 wives. The first was the mother of William ( d. 1717) and the second was Bridgett Foye, by whom he had no children. Malcolm rejected that version and believed that Bridgett Foye was the first wife of William (d. 1717).
