Just found out that my ancestor, Phillip Augustus Hooker, the son of Harvey Hooker and Isabella P. Brown, had an uncle and two cousins who mere medical doctors. "Gus" was born in Paxton, Worcester Co., MA in 1839 and his mother divorced her husband because of alcohol abuse. Young Gus moved to WI with his mother and stepfather, Orrison Thomas and married and fought in the Civil War under the name of Thomas even though he was never adopted. His uncle, Dr. John Hooker pleaded with him to take back the good name of Hooker but Gus chose not to. Is anyone out there familiar with a Hooker family of MDs who were from Worcester Co.? Gus had an uncle Jonathan Wilslow Hooker b. 1812 but I don't know if this is the MD. Carole Hammond, Portland, OR
