George, No, actually my Taylors are on my mothers side, that is why I had to have my uncle, her brother, do the Y - DNA test done. I know my Taylors back to 1800 but not beyond that and I was hoping to get further back which I did. I had a 25 marker test done and we matched 23/25 markers, that means we are probably related but I'm not well enough versed in DNA to know how far back. For the Y - DNA, they want the test performed on a relative with the last name of the family you want to know about. In otherwords, I wanted it on my Taylor side, so my uncle Gene Taylor did the test for me. The person taking the test can't have coffee within an hour of the test, then they want you to wait a few hours and have another swab done, then a few more hours to have the last swab done. This is because one of the swab's may not have enough salvia on it but the chances are good that at least one out of the three will be a good swab. They give very good directions in the kit you are sent so be sure to read it first. Also, they say that you buy at least a 25 marker test which in Family Tree DNA is about $150. You can always upgrade if you want. Hope this helps, but I would go to the following and read what they say about it. http://www.familytreedna.com/ Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: "george groll" <ggroll@core.com> To: <hooker@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 28, 2007 10:19 AM Subject: Re: [HOOKER] DNA Results > treesearcher@rushmore.com wrote: > >>Linda L. >> >>You are welcome I'm glad I could help. >> >>What puzzles me is why some people go to the expense of having a DNA test >>done then they don't give a short ancestry outline chart for people to >>see. >>They must not realize that putting up a short ancestry outline chart not >>only helps people see if they connect but can also rule out someone who >>you >>think maybe connected to you. This is the Robert Hooker who is listed on one of the DNA sites, He is one of the 6 Hooker brothers (5 of whom were b in NC). Robert was probably born in the area of NC that became TN as he soemtimes states b NC and soemtimes TN. Robert was b c 1786. He and brothers Samuel (b c 1783 in NC) and George ( b c 1787 in NC) moved into Hopkins Co., KY by 1807. Robert stayed in KY when George and Samuel moved to AL c 1816. Some of Robert's descendants went into OH and IN. Robert married first Sarah Ashby c. 1806. He later married Lavicey Harmon Ashby (Jonathan Ashby;s widow). c 1830. Robert had 5 children before Robert married Lavicey. I need to make a correction. Tony states on the y search site he is descended from Issac Hooker. I thought he was descended from a g-daughter of Samuel's, but guess he is in the male line - anyway this Hooker line from the 6 brothers seems to be related to the MD Hookers. I just type in Genforum or Rootsweb or Genealogy.com on the search line (or you can Google it), and it come up. On Genforum type Hooker into the search for a forum box. The Robert Hucker listed on the Hooker DNA site is the one from MD - you could try and get in touch with that submitter and see if Prisciilla is in his line. I have written this submiter and the "Hucker" spelling in that first generation is sort of under investigation. The Samuel Hooker (b c 1783 in NC) is Tony Hooker's line, but Tony is related to Samuel through Samuels' grand-daughter. His male/yDNA line is through an Elijah Washington Hooker who looks to be related to the MD Hookers acording to this DNA profile. You can see these profiles on the site quoted here for the DNA project.
