Yes, that is how we know there is a definite tie betweeen John (b c 1797 in VA) and our line - George's line has always said that that John and George's son and g-saon were cousins - from family oral hist. The other names such as George and Samuel are used a lot in those lines - in John's Samuel was ued a lot and in ours Samuel and George (George being a Patrick Co.,VA name as welll as Samuel). And not used as much in the other "southern" lines. Darrell has mentioned the Stokes Co., NC Hookers who now we know appear to be definitely linked to the Patrick Co.,VA ones through the name Esom and by the back and forth movement over that border over many yrs. We need someone who can look into those records and the church record as well. But there should be some civil records since those in Patrick Co.,VA are not listed as destroyed. The family that went to IL and then to WA is the family of Joseph Hooker. The Hartford family is that of Rev. Thomas Hooker. Both of these families are well documented. The southern Hookers on the other hand, with the exception of the William Hooker family of VA/NC, is less documented. Seems like we get to VA and hit a brick wall. But we are Hookers by blood and they allowed my brother to take the test. Wanted to tell you that it seems as if those Stokes Co., NC and Patrick Co., VA Hookers are all intertwined. The name "Esom" (from Charlotte's line) crops up on both side of the state border their in fmailies. I relally think this is our line also as the name George is big in the Patrick Co.,VA line - one George left Va and went into the Knox/Clay Co., KY area early on where Charlotte's line is later, and this George was there when her Esom (b c 1796 in VA) arrived there around 1850. Could be her Esom heard from this older relative who went there early on and decided to go to KY after his probable brother, John (b c 1797 in VA) left Washington Co.,TN for AL (and Esom went back to VA for a while then on to KY c 1850). It might be the reason that 3 of our Hooker brothers went to Ky from TN early on as well - hearing about Ky from relatives who went there or vice versa?? I also recently got some info on VA records and Patrick Co., appears not to have been a county whose records were destroyed. We were always told that many Va records were lost/destroyed, but the counties around Patrick were not listed as counties that lost/did not have early records????? In other word there are records for those counties in the VA archives and in the county courthouses. I guess we need soemone in VA to request these as there is an extra fee for out of state queries from the VA archives. There is a book written about the Joseph Hooker descendants who went from MA/New Eng. to NY to IL and IN/OH then on to Oregon, I think, rather than WA. You should be able to find that book or its title by going to a library and asking how to get info on "books in print" or Library of Congress lists of books. It has something about "Man" in the title - like What a man has to do or One Man's Life - I just cannot remember exactly. It was said that Joseph Hoolker wwas also related to the of Rev Thomas Hooker back in Eng. I am sure that many of Rev Thomas Hooker's descendants spread out all over the New Eng area - I know many of htem went ot NY state as well.
