    1. [HOOKER-L] HOOKER - MORRIS
    2. SARAH A CANNON
    3. I am trying to learn more about a SARAH HOOKER, who married a JOHN P. MORRIS. Their only son, ALFRED WILLIAM MORRIS, was born 6-11-1821 in MS, and it is said that when his parents died, he left MS and came to TX. ALFRED WILLIAM MORRIS, mar. in 1845 in TX, MATILDA PALMER/PARMER, daughter of MARTIN PALMER (signer of Texas Declaration of Independence, as Martin Parmer, insteat of Palmer). I have not been able to find the parents of ALFRED WILLIAM MORRIS. Relatives say that Alfred, was an only child, but, it could be that he was an only child of that particular marriage, and John P. Morris and/or Sarah Hooker, may have had a previous marriage. Thanks, Sallie Cannon near Beaumont, TX [email protected]

    1. [HOOKER-L] Original Edition, "Descendants of Rev. Thomas Hooker"
    2. O'Neal Antiquarian Booksellers
    3. May 20, 1999 Dear Friends: Please pardon the unsolicited message, but I wanted to advise the membership of a rare genealogy I am currently offering: HOOKER, EDWARD. The Descendants of Rev. Thomas Hooker, Hartford, Conn., 1586-1908. Margaret Huntington Hooker, edit. Rochester, N.Y., [Np., Privately Printed for Margaret Huntington Hooker], 1909. Thick 8vo. Pp. xxxvi, 5 5 8. Orig. three-quarter dark brown morocco, marbled boards, spine printed in gilt. with four raised bands. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut and partially unopened. Significant wear to external hinges and extremities, spine rubbed at base with approx. 1/4" loss across bottom. Internally excellent. First and only edition. Extensively indexed and annotated. Concerns the progeny of Rev. Thomas Hooker (1586?-1647), Congregational clergyman, emigrated during the Puritan exodus from England together with John Cotton, and Samuel Stone and landed at Boston in 1633. "Dictionary of American Biography" in its appraisal of Hooker, refers to him as '...emphatically one of the founders of that state [Connecticut]'. A very readable and serviceable printing, with much anecdotal as well as genealogical evidence. The introduction is lengthy and makes copious reference to Rev. Thomas Hooker $165.00 It is a very serviceable copy and I offer it subject to prior sale. Thanking you in advance for your courtesy and consideration, I am, Sincerely, Christopher Hartman David L. 1. [HOOKER-L] list managers appeal
    2. Hi fellow listees, You should know that ROOTSWEB.COM is the host for our mailing lists. RootsWeb differs from most major genealogy sites, as they are committed to keeping genealogical data free on the Internet so everyone can access it. However, they can't continue providing resources indefinitely without the support of our users. You'll find a complete listing of support levels and their benefits at: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html RootsWeb's support levels start at $12 a year, which is estimated as the average cost for keeping the files on-line for each of our users. That works out to $1 a month - about the same cost as three postage stamps each month. They think that's very modest, and we think you will too when you consider all the services and information that is available through RootsWeb and the thousands of mailing lists, websites, and GenConnect boards we host. Please take a moment to visit the above web site and consider taking the opportunity to support rootweb. Patrick Anderson list manager

    3. This is my first post to this list and it will be brief because my time is short at the moment. I am looking for persons in our HOOKER line that have connections to these families: RAMAGE/RAMMAGE BRACK/BROCK COLEMAN PERRY SMITH These families would have connected by marriage directly to a HOOKER: before 1821 -- PERRY before 1840 -- SMITH about 1870 -- RAMAGE, BRACK COLEMAN was the maiden name of the mother of Lucy Brack/Brock Hooker Elizabeth Coleman m Benjamin Foreman Brack If any of you can provide information concerning these relationships, please do so. I am posting my info in small portions to maintain better records regarding categories of info for my files. Feel free to send messages to my personal address if you think privacy is important and discussion shouldn't take place on the list. Definite info will be posted as it is verified and a new step needs to be taken. on the list. mailto:[email protected] Jennifer S. Braswell

    2. Rose Parks
    3. I have a typed copy of the will of William Hooker died 1717 in Chowan Co. NC and one also of William Hooker who died in Bertie Co. NC 1757. In the 1757 will says his daughter Ann married Jacob Lassiter. Is this the same Jacob Lassiter who went to Dobbs Co. NC with William, her brother, and perhaps other Hooker family members? William III had a son Hymerick according to the 1769 Dobbs tax list. did he have other children? My main focus at this time is to determine if the Jacob Lassiter who married Ann Hooker went to Dobbs (later Greene) NC and if Hymerick Hooker married Sallie Lassiter (maybe the daughter of Jacob and Ann) and who were their children. I need DOCUMENTED SOURCES, I have too much hearsay already. Rose Parks

    2. Nadine - yes I have the Percy Hooker chart, which I got from Kyle. I met Kyle while he was doing research in Raleigh a few weeks ago, we had a very nice conversation. To clear up the confusion, my line is as follows, presumed: All in NC William II ( will Bertie 1757 ) James ( d Hertford Co. 1778 )+ Zilpha Spruill Samuel C. ( will Greene 1822 ) + Mary Blanchard Hardy ( d Greene 1831-1839 ) + Nancy Freeman Ann E ( d Greene 1861) + Isaac Jordan ( d Greene 1861 ) Charles Marion Jordan + Sophia Faulkner The above Nancy Freeman ( 1797-1872 ), who m Hardy Hooker was the dau of John and Nancy Freeman who also owned property along Rainbow Cr. in Greene Co., she ( Nancy wife of John Freeman ) might well have been a Hooker, as their first and apparently, only son was John Hooker Freeman ( b 1794 ). He maried Penelope Sugg and had issue, but none named George to match the one you mentioned in your last post. The information on the Freemans comes from a transcription of a family bible record contained in " Geneological Links from Eastern NC " by Lewis Allen Churchhill at the NC Archives. Am back on Hookers again and will keep my eye open for William. I am assuming he is the William mentioned in the Greene Co. Tax list for 1816 and it seems logical that he is the son of Heymerick I. Hal Jordan

    1. [HOOKER-L] Surnames PHOLLIPS, BOLIN, GABRIEL, ROGERS & WINNINGHAM
    2. Felder: Just read your post to the list and noticed that that your great great great grandfather Hugh Edward PHILLIPS b. 1759 married Mary BOLIN. Hugh and Mary's fourth child Mary Elinor PHILLIPS married W. M. BOLIN and as her second marriage and his second marriage, married John HOOKER b. Feb 14, 1806 - d. Jan 17, 1897. Her grave marker at Rocky Swamp reads: SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF ELENER HOOKER, FORMER WIFE OF W.M. BOLIN, LATE WIFE OF JOHN HOOKER BORN APRIL 14, 1809, FELL ASLEEP IN JESUS APRIL 5, 1885". John is my great great grandfather and was first married to Martha A. E. ? as his first wife. I would like to find someone that knows what Martha's maiden name was. I have been told by a family member that she was JEFFCOAT, but I have been unable to locate her or any of her family. If you have any information on this or run across Martha anywhere please give us a post. If this is part of your line, I have a photo copy of the original "Marriage Bond" between John HOOKER and Elinor BOLIN dated 2nd day of February 1858 Al Hooker [email protected]

    1. Re: [HOOKER-L] Chlidren of Stephen Hooker
    2. Kyle VanLandingham
    3. Joyce--The Stephen Hooker who appears on the l790 Tyrrell Co., NC census was the eldest son of Sheriff John and Elizabeth Mary (Swain) Hooker. He first shows up on deeds in Tyrrell about l765 and in l780 married Martha Craddock. She was probably his 2nd wife. Stephen had a number of children, but I only know of 3. One was Francis, for whom Stephen registered a mark and brand in l784. Francis appears on the l810 census for Pasquotank Co., NC, and d. ca. l837. He was grantor in a deed to Stephen in Tyrrell Co. in l80l. Another son of Stephen was named Stephen and he appears on the l800 Tyrrell Co. census on the same page as Stephen, Sr. This could be the same Stephen who m. Mary Ward in l79l in Tyrrell Co. Of course, there was also a Stephen who m. Polly Wilcox in l798 in Pasquotank Co. Finally, I also believe that Stephen Hooker, Sr., (b. ca. l746/7) was the father of a son named Nathan. This could be the same Nathan who d. ca. l807 in Pasquotank Co. Of course, we have never accounted for the Nathan who was the son of Sheriff John so the Nathan in Pasquotank could be that Nathan.
