Dear Chris, Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Steve Bryant 8672 Davmor Ave. Garden Grove, CA 92841
Pat, I never did thank you for your data concerning Robert Hooker. My greatgrandfather was Presley Laffayette Hooker, Robert's youngest child. previously I had little knowledge of P.L.'s parents. P.L. was married twice. His second wife, my greatgrandmother was Kathryn Oversreet. I met a young woman at Fort Knox in 1965 named Gwen Hooker. It is possible that her grandfather was a son of P.L. Hooker's by his first marriage. If she is out there somewhere I would enjoy re-establishing contact. Hi there, Recently, I was sent an extensive Hooker lineage for my husband's family which could be a real connection here. I have to go out of town suddenly to care for my mom. I will keep this query in my file and get back to it upon my return. I'm sorry that I cannot do it now. Sincerely, Chris Hooker [email protected] wrote: > forwarding to the Hooker family mail list > Patrick > > In a message dated 99-07-10 10:05:46 EDT, you write: > > << Subj: Leonard Hooker > Date: 99-07-10 10:05:46 EDT > From: SBryant783 > To: PatAnder73 > > Searching for more info on Leonard Hooker. Hello, My great grandparents lived in Clay County, Ky. Their names were Frank and Melzelia (Mil) (SMITH) HOOKER. Frank was a preacher and had a small store there around Brightshade, Ky. sometime in the early to mid 1900's. Frank was born to Clinton HOOKER and Jane WAGES, on Jan. 10, 1878, in Ky. Melzelia SMITH was born to Daw (Daugherty?) and Jane (JACKSON) SMITH. I am trying to find information on when Melzelia died and more about her parents. Thank you, Charlotte
Was in our cemetery just last week and found some more Hooker's does anyone have information on a Horace & Mary Hooker he was b. in 1831 d. 1910 and she was b. 1831 and d. 1881; I think he is my gggrandfather or ggggrandfather, ( I remember when we were little my grandmother Nora Hooker told of how one of our ggggrandfather hauled a hugh boulder up to the cemetery for his tombstone and this is what his tombstone is) and also buried right next to them I found a Andrew Hooker Corporal b.10-10-1836 d.12-24-1914, served with the Batt'y B1st NY Lt. Art.; no wife burioed there with him ; they may be brothers but not sure; any help would be appreciated!
The name Parmalee caught my eye. Are the Parmalees not associated with the Reverend Thomas Hooker? Seems that I recall seeing a Dorothy Parmalee married into that family. Does anyone know?
At a family gathering I was given a very old scrap of paper that was found in a family Bible concerning the Hooker family. >From what I have in my geneology of the Hooker family none of this makes sense so I was wondering if it would be of any help to any of you. The following is typed exactly as it appears on the document as it was given to me: Elfleda Hooker born April 9, 1865 at Poultney Vermont *Egbert Johnson Hooker born April 6, 1874 at Poultney Vermont Daniel Johnson Hooker born April 6, 1874 at Poultney Vermont (Egbert and Daniel are apparently twins) Egbert Johnson is starred as being married and the birth of one child is recorded Clarence Edward born Feb 2, 1901 Mother is not recorded as having had children so Daniel and I are not in the book. S.V.R. is the oldest son. A daughter older. Lucy born Jan 1860 at Poultney Vt. Samuel Hooker b. June 27, 1861 Poultney Vt. George Parmalee b. March 25 1863 Poultney Vt. Caroline, b. Feb 20, 1865 at Poultney Vt. Caroline died July 10, 1866 Poultney Vt. Elizabeth b Feb 25, 1867 Asona (?) Born and died April 4, 1869 Frederick G. b. Sept 12, 1870 Poultney, Vt. Laura b. Oct 8, 1872 Poultney, Vt. Calista b. May 13, 1875 Poultney, Vt. Mary b. Aug 5, 1876 died Feb 15, 1885 None of these is recorded as married- therefore no record of any children. That is the end of the document. Anyone with any insight to this mystery please contact me as I only recognize three names on this list and the rest are unknown. Dave
My husband always told me after I started this, I was going to find some horsethiefs and haven't yet but have found worse. I know people don't want to air their dirty laundry but we can't help what our ancestors did or did not do. This is my first post to the list and I will start with an introduction about my search for HOOKER families. My mother-in-law is searching for this, her father's family, and has found some brick walls. It seems that her ancestors very elusive. She doesn't have a computer to do her research, so I am trying to help her in that respect. Since they are so hard to find, she's leery of closet skeletons and has been hesitant about giving me information, because she is insecure about having family information on the Internet. I have tried to assure her that I will not share anything on a web site that would be embarrassing to her family, and would request that all such info should be sent to my private address for review before I share it with the list. I hope this is okay, because I need to keep her respect for my honor and desire to really help and not just be nosy. I will certainly appreciate your help with my search. Now, for my first post... John Perry Hooker , b. 1821 in SC, married Matilda Smith ? b. 1819 He is listed as a head of household in the 1840 census in Kershaw CO SC. My resource tells me that there are two males included in this household, who be cause of their age are probably younger brothers, and two females, who are his daughters. The names of these folks are: Moses Hooker, and Joseph M. Hooker (brothers) and the daughters' names are Mary Elizabeth , and Mahala C. Hooker. Matilda is believed to be part Cherokee. Her maiden name is not proven. The family migrated to GA during the 1840s and is listed in the 1850 census in Walker CO GA, having added a boy child in 1849. After 1850, we find Moses has already left the South, and has departed for adventure, and the search for gold. My research has located a M. Hooker in the 1850 census in Sutter CO CA. I am presently pursuing this lead. Joseph M Hooker has married Elefair (sp?) and has moved to Alabama for the duration of the '50s. He eventually migrates to Middle Georgia and settles there, By this time, John Perry and his family have moved to Middle Georgia and have added more children to their brood, and have remained there. By trade, John Perry was a wainwright, and possibly did other carpentry to supplement his income. Joseph M. was a carpenter. This is my first installment concerning this group of HOOKERS. I welcome any knowledge of this family you can offer. We are looking for parents' names, and specific birth and death info for these family members. Jennifer Sherwood Braswell
I will be happy to look at TN wills the next time I go to the library, but it may be awhile. Maybe his dad left a will. Did I send you the TN Census stuff? I looked at several today and can't remember who I sent what. Joyce
Joyce, The only information I have on James is b.1820 Tenn. that came from the 1850 Census Knox Co. Ky. On that census he is listed as living next to Solomon Miller age 70 and Catherine Miller age 67 both b.N.C. and I assume they are the parents of Barbara A Miller his wife m.3 Feb 1848 Knox Co.Ky. James Hooker next appears on the 1870 Census Jackson Co, Ind. with 5 children born in Ky. and the youngest age 5 born in Indiana. If you have anyone that may connect to this would love to hear from you I have been stuck with James for some time now. Thanks Nora
Nora, What is the date of James birth? If you know. Also do you have any other info such as siblings and whether they are younger or older? Six of the seven Hookers on the 1820 Census for TN that have males under 10. Let me hear from you. Joyce
