Cindy; Thanks. I didn't know that about the name Salmon. I wondered why would that be a name and thought perhaps the fish was named after some guy by that name. Gosh, I just looked at my records and it does say those dates. That would also make her quite old when she died....hmmm....I looked all through the files from online and the cds, and they agree on the date. Isn't that odd? I never questioned her age at child bearing before. Maybe it was a second marriage, or that is why he is the only child listed, or perhaps he was a grandson raised as a son and not noted elsewise. Something to think about. Thanks. Brenda; As far as I can gather, my line came from Massachusetts to Vermont to Ohio to Michigan. There were, I am told, however, two brothers. One went south and his lineage is there. I had a website for that, but will have to look in my files to see where it was. Some Hooker gal wrote about her family in the south back in the 1800s and it was published again in something like 1924. I will look for my disk with this and pass it along. Meanwhile, I will also look on the cds I have for the other names for you. Do you by any chance have any information about a Jackson Hooker who married Margaret Hughes?
Lee, Thanks for sharing your lineage and knowledge of this Hooker book. One thing, though, caught my attention and I wonder if I'm perceiving it correctly. You said Mary Farr was born 1686 and her child Daniel was born in 1750, making her 64 years old at his birth. Did I misunderstand something? Is there a typo? Not too many women could do that! As to the spelling of Solomon, I have seen it used interchangeably with Salmon in England as a surname. It is a variant spelling and has nothing to do with the fish. I believe Salmon were called Roe in Great Britain for some time, but may be wrong about that. I wish you lots of luck with your search, and hope your aunt is in a generous mood! Lee, do you know if any of your HOOKERs ended up in the South? W.W. Hooker was my greatgreatgrandfather, but I know nothing further back than him as of now. He married an R.J. YOUNG and they lived and to my knowledge, were married in Bossier Parish LA. They had children, but only one that I have even a name for and that was my greatgrandmother Jessie Lorene Hooker (nickname Lola). Lola Hooker married Edward B Lockey in Bossier Parish and they had about 5 children before she died at the age of 28 years. WW Hooker, RJ Young Hooker and Lola Hooker Lockey are all buried at the Bellevue Cemetery in Haughton, Bossier Parish, LA. It seems that during the Civil War (according to Parish records), for some reason WW Hooker was known as WW Hanks. I have not yet figured this out, unless for some reason he changed his name from Hanks to Hooker after the war. Does any of this sound familiar at all to you? Will do, Linda. I hope my aunt is in a good mood and allows me access to the book. I do hope there is an address for ordering a copy, as well. Joan; I was wondering the same thing myself. I saw Solomon Hooker listed and thought perhaps the contributor couldn't believe someone would name their child Salmon. Or perhaps someone mispelled Solomon and made it Salmon while giving information. I will check on Wednesday, if at all possible. Sound interesting. I had an uncle who was deputy sheriff in Racine, Wisconsin, he was Royal Lowden, son of Cora Mae Hooker from her first marriage. I find in research that many family members, although unbeknownst to them at the time, seem to move to the same locations and marry back into family. Isn't that odd? Lee, I would be very interested if you can find a Robert Hooker who was born about 1815 in Indiana and married Rachel McGuire. I haven't seen anyone who is researching this family besides myself, I sure hope someone out there is. I get bits and pieces on other members of the family but not Robert himself. I sure would appreciate a lookup on him when you look at the Hooker book. Thank You in advance. Just dropping in on this discussion. Although I'm a little confused by it all, I was just wondering if Salmon and Solomon Hooker might be the same person? I've seen that name confusion in other lines I'm working on. Joan Olsson
Anyone happen to have the book that was mentioned by Lee (below) about the Hooker family? I'm trying to learn about my MORRIS family, prior to being in TX in 1845. Story is, A. W. (Alfred William) Morris, left MS, where he was supposedly born, after his parents died. A. W., was supposedely an only child, and his parents were John MORRIS & Sarah HOOKER. The name HOOKER, is used in later generations. A. W. Morris, was born Feb. 11, 1821 in MS or AL. I surely would appreciate a look-up. Thanks Sallie Cannon ------ [email protected] wrote: > Okay. I believe that My HOOKERS were born in Vermont also. I will check my papers this evening, they ended up in Wisconsin the name is Able HOOKER b 1811? he married Martha RITTER, had at least 2 children Frank and Philander, Frank HOOKER married Eva HARRINGTON and their daughter Velma Josephine HOOKER married James e POWERS, they had a son Jack Franklin POWERS this was all in and around Pierce County and St. Croix County Wisconsin. Okay. Also, this Wednesday I am going to a relative's house that has a book about the Hooker family she bought at a reunion one year. Our branch has a family reunion every year in Evart, Michigan. I am going to see if the book has an address that we can write to to order the book. She said it is quite complete, and this I want to see as I have not been able to flush out Jacob Hooker in any place else. I will let everyone know if I can get the book. If you go to http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/hooker/index.html I am building a site about my lineage to the Hooker name, and more. Lee Jacob Hooker was born somewhere between 1674-1727 and died between 1751-1811. He married Mary Farr between 1701-1751. She was the daughter of Stephen Farr and Mary Taylor. She was born May 4, 1686 in Billerica, Middlesex, Massachusetts, and died between 1751-1782. Their child was Daniel Hooker, born June 25, 1750 in Littleton, Massachusetts, and died February 15, 1817 in Brandon, Vermont. Daniel Hooker married Mary Gates on April 24, 1773. She was born on June 28, 1757 in Stow, Massachusetts, and died between 1797-1852. Their children were: Salmon Hooker, April 23, 1791, Stow, Massachusetts, died January 10, 1873 in Know County, Ohio. Jacob was born somewhere between 1674-1727...I found one who died on August 13, 1781 in Athol, Massachusetts, which could be him. He was married to Mary Farr who was born in Billerica, Massachusetts, so it connects, however an estimate I found claims he died somewhere between 1751-1811. I don't know where he was born, and that is part of what I am looking for. Salmon Hooker is my lineage, however, I find Daniel Hooker with a son Jacob, but did not know that Salmon had one as well. I will add him to my chart. Thanks. Lee, What century and on what continent did your Jacob Hooker live?
I am very intrigued wih the Jacob Hooker and Cora Hooker. I have a jacob Alexander HOOKER, born 1846. He had a daughter Cora, born July 27, 1870. Does this fit in anywhere? Jacob's father was SOLOMON HOOKER, born in IN according to census records. I do not know Solomon's parents names.they aare supposed to be from NC>
