Alternately spelled Hogg Island and Hog Island - it is located on the south side of the James River (about three miles downstream from the Jamestowne Colony and about 30 miles inland from the Chesepeake Bay) in the low country (Surry and Isle of Wight Counties) of Virginia. It is now (and has been for some time) a wildlife refuge (Virginia Wildlife Management Area). http://www.dgif.state.va.us/hunting/wma/hog_island.html http://www.worldnaturetrails.com/nature_trails/virginia/tidewater/tidewater_ 004.html http://www.lhdigest.com/Digest/StoryPage.cfm?StoryKey=978 Hope this is helpful to someone -- ANYBODY UP FOR A ROAD TRIP?!?!
