    3. NEWS-RECORD Greensboro, NC MR. WILLIAM "BILL" HOLT, JR. 05-09-2002 MEBANE— Mr. William "Bill" Alfred Holt, Jr., 72, of 410 South 3rd Street, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Liberty Commons Nursing Home, following several years of failing health and one week of a critical illness. The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Mebane Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeffrey Smith and Rev. Wyatt Aiken officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. He was born in Alamance County to the late Mr. William Alfred Holt, Sr. and Mrs. Bronah Elnora Tate Holt. He was a retired employee of Kingsdown Inc., as a maintenance supervisor for 26 or more years. He was the husband of Mrs. Grace Lynch Holt. Bill was a lifetime member of Mebane Presbyterian Church, where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder. He has served as Chairman for the Property Committee. For many years, he looked after the heating and air conditioning system at the church. He has been responsible for many lighting and electrical projects. He worked unselfishly to provide a comfortable worship environment in the church. Bill was a member of The Ô04 Club at Kingsdown, Inc. He was instrumental in the designing and development of various machinery at Kingsdown. Bill worked at Western Electric for 18 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served his country from 1951 until 1954. His highest rank was Sergeant. Bill was an amateur photographer and even developed his own pictures. He recorded weddings and other events in the area for many years. He was an avid and dedicated Ham Radio Operator and a senior member of the Amateur Radio Relay League. He ran his own business out of the "Shop" which he called Holt Maintenance. Bill was a die-hard Andy Griffith fan. He also loved camping with Boy Scout Troop #43 when his son was in the Scouts. Bill truly loved his church, his family and friends, and Mebane. He will truly be missed — especially his unmatchable sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Lynch Holt of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Cindy (Johnny) Ridge of Mebane, Mrs. Libby (Richard) Halacheff of Elon; Mrs. Jane (Jim) Bailey of Mebane; one son, Mr. William A. "Al"(Laurie) Holt III of Mebane; grandchildren, Dina Watson, Laura Ridge, Heather Holt, Will Ridge, Jacob Halacheff and Joseph Halacheff; and one great-grandchild, Brittney Watson. He was preceded death by his brothers, Mr. Dewey Holt and Mr. J. Robert Holt. The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al Holt, 1144 Newberry Drive, Mebane.
