Prior to moving to what is now Sharp County in 1844, they lived in Bedford County, TN and their ancestors lived in what is now Alamance County, NC and what is now Madison County, VA. The original German immigrant was Hans Michael Hold (Michael Holt) and he arrived in Virginia in 1717. This family is well documented in Germany as well as North America. Also, Christopher Holt, born 01-10-1819, did not have any documented middle name (despite what it says on his new grave marker). If he had two given names, they were probably William Christopher since his first two grandsons were named William Christopher Nicholson and William Christopher Holt. I descend from this family.
