The first record that I find him mentioned is in the Surry Co. Deed book #7, p 103. Mathew Gibbs, son of Mathew Gibbs of Albemarle Parish, binds himself to Nathaniel Holt of Nottoway Parish in Southampton Co. as an apprentice to learn to be a Saddler. Recorded 15 Jan 1754. Drury born Dec. 1759 in VA. Drury Holt was in the Montgomery County, VA Militia 1782-1787 I've heard he was at the Battle of Pt. Pleasant in 1774, but he would have been pretty young. That battle wasn't well documented, and I have found no proof that Drury Holt was there. Hawkins County, NC - (TN since 1796) Land "Earliest Tennessee Land Records & Earliest Tennessee Land History" David Holt, File No.985, Hawkins County, 100 acres, Grant 757, Grant Date 27 Feb. 1796, Entry 216, Entry date, 21 Feb 1780,Bk ,88, Pg 502 on N. Side of Holston River. On the line below David Holt, there is Drury Holt, File No. 984, Hawkins County, 50 acres, Grant 756, Grant Date 27 Feb. 1796 (same as David's), Entry 63, Entry Date 8 Feb 1780, same book and page as David's, but Drury's 50 acres are "North side of Clinch River". So, it appears there was a connection of some sort between Drury Holt and David Holt. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
