I am a direct descendant of James and Hannah (Allen) Holt and I was quite disappointed with the book, especially given how it's been promoted and marketed. I was so disturbed by the number of inaccuracies and distortions I was going to personally contact the author and publisher. I would normally forgive the distorttion in historical ficiton - except the promotion of the book so touts the author's personal connection and all the research she did. Separately, I'm very interested in having my brother's DNA added to the file and/or my paternal uncles, still living. I think I will reach out to Ed earlier on this thread. I have extensive and complete documentation of our paternal, as well as maternal lines. I would love to help solve the mystery of Nicholas Holt. I am beginning to believe: a. he was not from Romsey b. his occupation was not "tanner/turner" as listed on the ships' roll. he clearly participated in other ways in both Newbury (he was an original proprietor there as well as Andover). c. I don't think he had an Andover ENg. connection - that was the minister they took with them initially to found the town - Woodbridge. d. I'm not sure his name was really Holt. e. Net- net I think he was hiding/escaping. They were politically charged times and I think he had reasons to obscure his identity. Ultimately, I think clues may be found from research Henry Short and family. (Nicholas' wife Elizabeth's family).
