Killed In Action in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va. The 3rd Infantry Regiment was organized by Colonel J.M. Withers in April, 1861, at Montgomery, Alabama. Men of this unit were recruited in the cities of Mobile and Montgomery, and the counties of Man, Lowndes, Coosa, and Autuaga. At Chancellorsville, it was in General Stonewall Jackson's Corps in the assault on Union General Hooker's Federal troops, and in the two days, lost 24 killed and 125 wounded.
