I am a HOLT of African and Indian descent who is still searching, after many years of research, for a family connection. The 1870 census enumerates Edith Holt and her husband Boswell Ray in Alamance County; however per the census, she was born in South Carolina, around 1815 and Roy around 1803. I assume that Edith and Boswell were slaves since I have not located them on any of the registers of Free Blacks. Does anyone have any information about the migration of the HOLT and RAY slave holding families migrating from South Carolina to North Carolina. Jalil H.
