Several, including me, have proven that they were not of particular Holt lines in spite of paper research or verbal tradition. As an example, many of my cousins had accepted some false claims that our line was the German Hold/Holt line. DNA proved that to be very wrong. Some members have matched with at least one other researcher. I have matched up with 6 other researchers, two of which tested with another company than mine. Some have matched up or not matched up with other researchers who have tested with other companies. And to be honest, some have not had the first match up with another researcher or Holt line yet. But the thing that is surprising is the fact that DNA has proven that there are over 30 different unrelated Holt lines represented in the 72 members. But the more members we get, the more p! ossibilities for us all to find our true line and be able to identify some of our distant cousins out there. We have members living in the USA, England, and Norway. Most of our lines are from the UK and we have one proven Hold/Holt line from Germany. Many of the failures have been with the Variant spelled members lines such as Holton, Holtom, Houtz, Holtz, Holte. We do not yet have enough members with these surnames to work with. I say that DNA definitely has a vital role to play in genealogical research. Happy Hunting! Rev.
