Author: valleric Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.holt/3074.1.1.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Donna, Here's what I have on my William L. Holt. b August 8, 1819 d.August 14, 1871 and Married Martha Moore b. August 26, 1824. I'm almost certain he was also a William Leonard Holt as Asa Holt had a brother named Leonard. That's also what makes me believe that there is a connection to the William L. Holt that I mentioned when I started this thread. Asa was the son of Plunkett Holt who was the son of Plunkett Harraway Holt. The line is pretty well documented and came from VA. I think they are probably related in some way to the Holts of Grainger Co. TN but I haven't yet found a definitive connection. I descend from William and Martha Moore Holt's son Preston J. Holt who was also most likely born in Cocke Co. TN. I have not found any additional information for Martha other than in the census the enumerator wrote that she was born in TN. Preston J. Holt was born February 04, 1854 in TN and died June 26, 1900. He married Winnie Crumley b August 20, 1856 and d. January 4, 1927. My great aunt remembered Winnie Crumley and said that Winnie had red hair and that she, her siblings, and mother would comb Winnie's hair for her. She lived right next door to them. Preston and Winnie's daughter Bessie married Abner Acuff and my grandmother was one of their children. Like I said, I'm fairly certain there is some relation between these William L. Holts, but it's impossible for the one listed on the Dawes roll to be my ancestor. As far as I know, none of my Holts ever left TN. Though Preston and Winnie did live in Maury Co for a little while before returning to Cocke Co. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They are not the same William L. Holt. The William Holt I'm looking for was most likely born sometime in the 1820s or 1830s, and is most definitely not the William L. Holt that appears on the Dawes Rolls. As I stated in my original post, an elderly relative believes that William L. Holt with the Dawes # 789 is our ancestor, and he may well have been from related line, but he simply cannot be our ancestor as he was born 70 to 80 years too late. Jane, thanks for your nice and helpful reply in regards to the Rev. Adoniram Judson Holt. I went on- line and read a bit about him. Quite interesting. Unfortunately, he does not seem to be of my Holts either, although my Ambrose Holt had descandants that went into KY from NC or VA' I would be interesting in seeing the picture if you don't mind sending a copy. I have Adoniram Judson Holt in my genealogy info even though he doesn't tie into my own Holt line. His father Aaron lived in Pulaski County, KY for many years, and he had children with, but didn't marry, Polly Rebecca Sears. Polly was from my Sears line and I kept the info on her and Aaron Holt. Aaron then married A. J.'s mother (Miriam J. Buckner), and after that he married Margaret P. Loving. When trying to find out if Aaron Holt was part of my Holt line, I did find the book that A. J. wrote in either a Knoxville or Nashville, TN library (but don't remember which). The book is also available on Amazon. If anyone wants pictures of Adoniram J. Holt, I have two and can e-mail a copy to you. There's plenty of internet material on Adoniram for those interested. J. Holt and have a letter written by him to his son detailing his geneological ancestors to Nicholas Holt. He wrote a book about his life entitled "Pioneering in the Southwest". It has some information about his family but it is mainly about his missionary work with the indians and later that Baptist Conventions. I do not have any information about William H. Holt but he talks about events leading to the War between the States and how it affected family relations. I am trying to find information about A.J.'s children other than John Broadus Holt.
