My great great grandmother was Georgia Holt 1883-1899. I research back to Moses Boone 1786 to 1825. My grandmother's birth name was Joseph Ergle Chandler after her father that died of the influenza two week before she was born. So she was given a male name because they didn't know if the baby would be a girl or boy. They always called her Georgia after her mother. Her mother died a month after she was born of the same influenza and her grandmother,Martha Lucinda Boon, raised the baby (my grandmother). Martha dates are 1860-1920. Rueben H. Boone was Martha's father and was born in Marshall County, Tenn. and died in Lake County, Tennessee 1877. Martha's mother was Elizabeth Crunk. I am not sure where your grandmother fits into this but the name Holt and Boone seem to be the connection. I have never run across any information that there were any African American family members. I have many Boone or Boons listed but no Captian. I have a George William Boon 1858 to 1888. There is a Galloway that comes in about 1822. Does any of this connect to what you have. I'm descended from Robert Holt's son Richard. I am inclined to think that the Robert Holt that has so much documented in the Maryland Archives about his bigamy, and Dorothy Heywood's adventures, was probably not born in 1605, but about 1620. Every genealogy I read seems to just copy the 1605 birthdate and the 1625 marriage date as conclusive proof. I would like to see someone's proof. I would be happy to forward my investigation and conclusions to anyone who wishes to discuss it. My mother, Mary Louise Gentry Binkley, who died in 2001 at the age of 90, left a brief account of the early years of her life in Franklin, Tennessee. I was amazed by the accuracy of her memory in most cases. However, in the case of Ollie Holt, she did incorrectly call her Hollie or Hallie. I finally figured out from census records that she had to be talking about Ollie Holt, sister of Mattie and daughter of Joseph Holt and his wife, whose name appears to me to have been Thenia. Prior to moving to what is now Sharp County in 1844, they lived in Bedford County, TN and their ancestors lived in what is now Alamance County, NC and what is now Madison County, VA. The original German immigrant was Hans Michael Hold (Michael Holt) and he arrived in Virginia in 1717. This family is well documented in Germany as well as North America. Also, Christopher Holt, born 01-10-1819, did not have any documented middle name (despite what it says on his new grave marker). If he had two given names, they were probably William Christopher since his first two grandsons were named William Christopher Nicholson and William Christopher Holt. I descend from this family.
