Now as far as the link that you gave for the Holt family information is concerned. The only problem I have with that site is that it has been proven to be in error. There is "No relationship" of our line to the German Hans Michael Hold/Holt line. This has been proven by DNA to be incorrect since 2004, but many researchers still have it on their websites because they didn't check it out for themselves. I had been the Administrator of the Family Tree DNA Holt Surname Project since 2004 and according to several DNA samples from both lines I have proven this relationship to be impossible. Therefore, that John Holt (or any other John Holt from that line) and Polly Hancock cannot be the parents of our Charles Holt. If you want to compare the DNA results of these two lines go to: www.holtfamilydnaproject.com Ed Holt Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You are the first one to use the Rev before Charles that I have seen. Also, I have only seen the "William" middle name used for Charles' son. I am a retired "Rev." so this caught my eye. Then you have the parents of Charles being John and Mary "Polly" Hancock. Do you have any documentation for this? I am convinced that his father is the John Holt that appears on record in Granville County NC based on DNA and other records but the mother I question. Can you help me on this? 3. Somewhere in the Holt archives we have posted information of an inheritance that is being held in England that if anyone can claim positive proof of their kinship it ca be released. It was found in a manuscript and I believe my husband has a full copy of the book that it was in on cd . I believe it was to a Judge John Holt; but could be wrong. The funds are supposed to be in the millions of pounds and tie to possibly the Randall Holt line as I recall. Helene

    3. This was created during the era around the turn of the century, apparently, when there were many charlatans running around gathering up funding to go to England and claim the "great estate" that had gone unclaimed there. They collected funds to pay for their trip to "prove the case" over there. The Holt families were among those who were caught up in this scam. When I began genealogy in the 1960's, there were still folks who remembered hearing their parents talk about the funds they invested in this scam that were lost, since no "great estate in England" was ever uncovered that belonged to any Holt they knew of! They were leery of my inquiries, thinking I was a part of some similar scam! 1. [HOLT] John Holt of England
    2. Helene
    3. Copy of the Original Affidavit of J.B. Holt, J.W. Drummond - Lawyer State of Tennessee } Knox County } AFFIDAVIT of James Buchanan Holt The said affiant being first duly sworn deposes and says: My name is James Buchanan Holt, but I am usually known as James Holt. I was born near Buchanan's Bridge in Pittsylvania County, in the State of Virginia, United States of America, on the 19th day of July, in the year 1798, and will be one hundred and one (101) years old on the 19th day of next July, being the 19th day of July, 1899. My father was Nathaniel Holt and he married Lucinda Carter, of Pittsylvania County, or Culpepper County, or Botetourt County, Virginia, and she was my mother. My father died in Jackson County, Kentucky, some time since the Civil War began in 1861, aged about one hundred years. My father's father was John Holt, who came from England to Virginia at an early day, and he was the son of a noted man in England, who was said to be very wealthy. My grandfather, John Holt, bought a farm of 400 acres in Rockingham County, North Carolina, and shortly before his death, received the money from England to pay for this farm. His wife was a Miss Cagely. She survived him many years, and my Gutherie family lived with her. My grandfather, John Holt, was about fifty years old and his wife about twenty years old when they married. My father, Nathaniel Holt, went into the United States Army in the War of 1812, while he was living with my grandmother on the 400 acre farm in Rockingham County, North Carolina, and my grandmother died while he was in the army. I was about fourteen years old, and went with my father to Charleston, South Carolina, where his command then was. My grandfather, John Holt, had children as follows: Edward, John, James, Isaac, Betsy (who married a man names Amos), Polly (who married Isham Sharpe and went to Kentucky), Celia (who married a man named O'Dell and lived and died in Virginia), Ann (who married a man named Carter, and lived and died in Virginia), and Nathaniel (who was my father). My recollection is that my father, Nathaniel Holt, was the youngest of my grandfather's children. I do not know when my grandfather, John Holt, died and do not remember that I ever saw him, but I knew his wife and remember her well. My father was born and reared in Virginia - probably in Pittsylvania County - and married Lucinda Carter (my mother). He had three children born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, as follows: Nancy (who married a man named Spivey), William and James Buchanan (myself). Another child, Ann (who then moved to Henry County, Virginia, and married Rueben Keith) was born in Henry County. My father then moved to Rockingham County, North Carolina, just over the line and across the river and had five more children born at that place, to wit: Ruth, Eliza, Stephen, Nathaniel and Peggy. Ruth married Halcomb, Eliza married Hampton; Stephen married Ramsey and died in North Carolina; Peggy married a Sawyers and now lives in North Carolina. It has been the understanding in our family ever since I can recollect, that my grandfather, John Holt, was the son of a noted man in England and that a large fortune in England belonged to us and that we would get it at the proper time. And further affiant saith not. The foregoing affidavit was subscribed and sworn to by James Buchanan Holt, with whom I am personally acquainted, before me. A Notary Public in and for Knox County, Tennessee, duly commissioned and qualified, and I certify that my commission is dated _____ and expires _____. Witness my hand and official seal at office in Knoxville, Tennessee, this the 6th day of February, 1899.
