William Holt b1840 in Manchester married Mary Ann Bowers in Stockport 1n 1856. His age given on cert as 21 (should be 16 if birth date correct) We know his mother was Ann Dalton (1st matron of Manchester Infirmary, whos husband? died young and she went to Philadelphia and married a Mr parkinson) On Williams marriage certificate fathers name is given as James Pilkington designer. This is completely alien to anything we know in the family. Could a mistake have been mad? has anyone experience anything like this on certificates they have got? I know ages were always suspect. I dont have anything to go on to research James Pilkington and I cant find william until his marriage and thereafter. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Holt's sister ( b.06/14/1862 Southampton County, VA, d.07/30/1949 Emporia, VA). I have studied a few civil war era and 1920 maps and have determined that the property is located somewhere in south east Greensville County, bordered on one side by the Meherrin River, possibly in the area of Haley's Bridge ( I don't know if it is still called Haley's Bridge, but I think it may be where Low Ground Rd crosses into Southampton County.) Does anyone have any information that would confirm any of this? The location has been a lot of guess wor! k so far, but I would like to verify it. Also, does anyone have any information on Leander Osmore Holt ( wife, children, other descendants, date /place of death)? If you give me your e-mail address, I can e-mail you copies of what I have found in the different census. We have a connection but I am not sure where. The Holts worked a farm at what was called Gatley Ditch. It was later re-named Kirtley Ditch. When you travel on the road from Alderly Edge you arrive at Mottram St.Andrew, there is a fork in the road where there is a monument.Where the road forks is where the Holt's farm was located.I discovered this old the old maps in the Macclesfield town hall.According to the census, the Holts moved to Hurdsfield, near Macclesfield and then back to Mottram St.Andrew.Some of the daughters went into the silk industry. If I can give you anymore help, please let me know. Thanks Ken Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have just ordered Allen's marriage certificate for 1844 and this will tell me who his father was and hopefully give a clue to how our branches are connected. Be in touch again soon. Allen Holt was my 4 times great grandfather and I've been trying to find out who his parents were for ages.I've been meaning to obtain Allen's marriage certificate but never got around to it. I felt sure his father was called Samson,as Allen gave one of his children that name (my 3 times great grandfather)so it looks as if I was right. I knew Allen died in 1875,but had no idea he was buried in Prestbury.I thought he may have been buried as a pauper as he sadly went into Macclesfield Workhhouse in 1861 and then into Chester Mental Hospital in 1871.It's nice to know he is buried with his parents.Where abouts is the grave located in Prestbury Churchyard? I live near Manchester so it's not far for me to drive down to Prestbury to visit the grave. I think we have been in contact before on Genes Reunited not so long ago.I think you messaged me about my 3 times great grandfather Samson. It's good to finally know we are connected. Thanks again for messaging me.I'll give you access to my tree on Genes Reunited (if I haven't already) and if you would like to know any further about my branch of the family, message me on here or GR and we could maybe swap email addresses. Hi - I may be coming in on the ninth inning of the discussion; please forgive me if I am. I am searching for the parents of my gg-grandfather, William Stephen Holt, born in 1838 in Philadelphia, PA, married in 1867 to Frances Lewis of St. Louis, MO, 3 children, Montford, Francis, & Anna. Died under mysterious circumstances in, per a family Bible, "Texas". Could be Texas Township, Illinois, Texas County, Missouri, or the state of Texas. Bible says he died in 1874. Would anyone have anything relating to this info? Thank you for anything you may have.
