    2. John
    3. On Oct. 21, 1815, Henry Holt married Dorothy Lewter (dau. of Elias Lewter and Sarah (Sallie) Wood) in Northampton County, NC. I would like to find out who the parents of this Henry Holt were. a Also, other family members? Recent developements have found henry and Dorothy in Limestone County, Al. where they presumably lived out their lives. Dorothy's mother, Sarah Lewter, migrated to Giles county, Tn. with at least two of her children after the death of her husband (abt 1809). Any information would be greatly appreciated. John V. Burns

    1. [HOLT-L] Kudos to HOLT researchers.

    3. I don't think that I can honestly tell all of you how much y'all have aided me in finding my Dad's HOLT line! I am deeply endebted to all of you. Those with whom I have corresponded personally and shared your HOLTs: Craig Kisabeth, Barbara Fahrlender, Dixie Chase, Helene Pockrus, Pam Howard, The Turners, Robert Nicholson, Brian Evans,Nell Reynolds,Mary Lou Pendergrass, Sandra Perry, and all ..I could go on and on ...but you know who you are and you have my eternal gratitude. My Dad died in 1985 and before Mom died in 1995, she gave me a scrapbook she and Dad had started where he was trying to find his parents and relatives. He had one piece of evidence from the GA Archives showing an Uncle's marriage in AL. I didn't really look at the scrapbook until I retired and unpacked some of the boxes I had of my parents things. Then three years ago, I went to GA for my 50th College Reunion with my best friend. She was/is heavily into her Mother's genealogy for at least 20 years and her books on her maternal family were fascinating. She encouraged me and so I took another look at Mom and Dad's Scrapbook. Of course, here I am now in NH and all my HOLTs are down South! To make a three year story short I've done most research online thru -Lists, thru FHC and correspondence both email and snail mail with yearly trips Down Home checking, finding original documents. But the major breakthrough was when I was made to realize that Michael HOLT was NOT his line..and the sharing of Robert's genealogy by several of you convinced me that in Robert was where the truth lay! I felt I had to do this for him. It was a Quest, as I explained to one person, a tribute to Dad. And now I have linked him to his past..all his HOLTs, Granddaddies and Grandmoms ..back to Robert of England...and I know he is smiling.. Thank you all, and God Bless you. Arnold Holt and Lillian's daughter from a previous marriage, Clara Harcq, were accused of her murder, went to trial, and were acquitted. I don't know anything about Arnold other than, he was a lot younger than his wife, & he served in WW1. Anyone have this line of Holts in their research?

    1. [HOLT-L] William HOLT of Greene co, GA ca. 1820
    2. Betty Faye Lawton
    3. I searched the book, "The Descendants of Michael HOLT" compld by Maudie HOLT Harris ..checked all the William's and ancestors but no luck. These HOLTs went on to MO and points north of GA, as far as I can ascertain... So, I have to think that Michael is NOT the line I'm looking for...are there similiarly compiled books of HOLTs that came through VA? I'm now waiting on FHC microfilm of "HOLT Orchard".which I understand from folks has info on the Southern migration of HOLTs. But feel sure there are other books with leads on my William m. Jane TURNER dau. of Wingate/Wingait M. TURNER in GA/SC/? ca. 1820. Other than the above two books, does anyone know of books on OTHER HOLT lines? BTW speaking of books, I was reading the "Georgia Genealogical Society Quarterly", Vol.37, No. 4, p.223. The article was on the genealogical holdings of the Smyrna Public Library, 100 Village Green Circle,Smyrna, GA 30080-2478; Phone: (770) 431-2860; contact person:Rita Davis, Admin. Library Asstnt. Smyrna is located NW of Atlanta in Cobb county, off I-75. Amoung the books the article (contributed by Ann L. Sherman and Jane L. Splawn) mentioned, ". . .The only complete set of books, outside the state of Virginia, by Ruth and Sam Sparacio on records of various Virginia counties is of special interest. This huge collection, with books color-coded by county, is a Virginia researcher's delight." I don't know if the Smyrna Library does inter-lib. loans, but thought I'd mention this. Anyone researching VA counties and living in the area or traveling to Atlanta, Smyrna would be a short day trip. Sometimes the books or info we need aren't necessarily in the logical geographic area we would expect them! I would appreciate such info on other HOLT line locations as well. Thank you for any information/leads/clues. Betty Faye (Double first name..ole Su'th'n custom) Searching for paternal:HOLT, LINDSEY, CARSWELL, TURNER; maternal:CLOUD,CHILDRESS, WHEELER, HARMON. 1. Re: [HOLT-L] Holt's of Illinois
    2. I don't know if this will help but when I lived in Illinois, there were some Holt's that were not related to me that lived in a town by the name of St. Charles, IL which is located in Kane County. Maybe this will give you an area to search. Jeanne Holt
