While file attachments are not permitted on the Rootsweb mailing lists, they are permitted on the rootsweb message boards (in GedCom, JPG and GIF formats only) and in the case of this list (and some others) the Message Board is linked to the list. So, a notice of the file attachment would be made on this mailing list. Just a thought... The HOLT message board at Rootsweb is at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.holt -- some people may need to cut and paste that complete URL as it is long enough to get split by some readers. Betty Ann Holt-Turner CoachBetty@Softhome.net not the list admin for HOLT-L but am the board admin for the HOLT message board.

Lived in, I believe, Henry Co., AL in the 1830's. Had three sons; Andrew Jackson Holt, David Holt and one that I do not have the name for.
We are headed back there next month from Utah for over 2 weeks. I even spotted some Holts in an old cemetery there 3 years ago and now I think I may be able to figure out who they are. That was in an old cemetery next to a piece of what used to be a church in Surry. Can find my way back I think. The Library of Virginia and the Rockerfeller(sp) Library are near there as well. Preston Holt: I can't send the scan to the group, you will need to send me your email address if you want a scan of this Hog Island map. Sue
Hi .......if you don't mind I would like to have an email scan of Hogg Island. Thanks, LaVon LaVonHatha@aol.com
I have a map of the area where Hogg Island is located. It is from the 1600s and shows all the surrounding land owners, how much property they own and when they acquired it. A wonderful research tool. If anyone wants it, just email me and I'll send you a scan. Sue Thompson sthomps61@alltel.net
Alternately spelled Hogg Island and Hog Island - it is located on the south side of the James River (about three miles downstream from the Jamestowne Colony and about 30 miles inland from the Chesepeake Bay) in the low country (Surry and Isle of Wight Counties) of Virginia. It is now (and has been for some time) a wildlife refuge (Virginia Wildlife Management Area). http://www.dgif.state.va.us/hunting/wma/hog_island.html http://www.worldnaturetrails.com/nature_trails/virginia/tidewater/tidewater_ 004.html http://www.lhdigest.com/Digest/StoryPage.cfm?StoryKey=978 Hope this is helpful to someone -- ANYBODY UP FOR A ROAD TRIP?!?! West Virginia became a state in 1863 so anything prior to that would list Virginia. My relatives were married in Kanawha County, Virginia in 1843 but now the records are in Kanawha, West Virginia. If you want to email me off list, we can figure out since my Robinette Holt is a daughter of Thomas Holt from Virginia.

I've recently found that Sally (or Sallie) was born in West Virginia - her mother was Mary Holt (don't have Father's name or Mother's maiden yet) Do you have any connection to the Holts of WVA? From what I've been told, they were from the Romney area.. need to investigate further.
