The man in the photo is “O. S. Holt". I enjoy buying lovely old pictures like these in antique shops and locating descendants/family members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with people who will treasure them. . The picture was taken in about 1905, and is one of a group I purchased, all taken by the same photographer in Ottawa (Gerding Studio). I believe all those pictured to be graduates of a college (yet to be named) in Ottawa. Mr. Holt is dressed in coat, shirt and tie, and appears to be in the neighborhood of 22-25 years old. The picture is 4- ¼” x 5-3/4”, and is an original on heavy cardboard as was typical during that time period. During the last 97 years, the cardboard has been bent across the photo, horizontally, across his tie area. It does not interfere with his facial features at all.. If you can relate to O. S. Holt (probably from Illinois), please Email me directly at margerice@prodigy.net and I will get back to you soon.
My computer will NOT let me send new messages. The only way I can get a message thru, is to hit reply & the address pops up automatically. I want to unsubscribe but since I can't send a new message I am stuck. Someway, somehow (hopefully the HOLT admin. is reading this) I need help to unsubscribe. Can someone please help me? Hello everyone, I know that I have asked this question before, but I need to ask it again and would appreciate it very much if you would do a "reply to all" so that another Holt researcher gets this email. Has anyone ever run across the name "Charles Holt" who was born 30 March 1762 in Prince William County, Virginia and died 19 September 1847 in Blountsville, Blount County, Alabama. I know his father's name was John Holt, but there are those that think my John is also the same John that was the son of Michael Holt...I have never found anything to prove this and any help would be appreciated. Dear List, I'm sending this to the HOLT-L in the hope that someone else may have these collateral family lines..since this is my email I won't use quotes: Item 1: My paternal Grandfather, Davis Abdon HOLT,aka D.A. , m. I have information back to James LINDSEY and Sara Frost but no details on James/Sarah other than they were from Edgefield co, SC. Their son, GGGreatgrandfather, Isaac LINDSEY b. ca. 1807- no location, so possibly James was in Edgefied co, SC about 1800-1807? Does anyone have any clues on James parents names, dates or locations/areas to search? Or genealogical data of James and his LINDSEY ancestors? What LINDSEY "line" was James in? I plan to research in Edgefield co, SC in April but only have limited time, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Item 2: Paternal Grandmother, Irene LINDSEY HOLT's sister, Mary Gertrude LINDSEY, aka "Gertrude", m. James Alexander CARSWELL aka "J.A.?", date unknwn but probably in Irwinton, Wilkinson co, GA. I will be in Milledgeville,GA visiting in April, so plan to search in whatever locale I can find for info on the CARSWELLs and LINDSEYs including Wilkinson and Bibb co, GA. Again ANY clues will be gratifying! I'm try to find 1) my relationship with a CARSWELL that my Dad, Cosby HOLT, told me was my cousin, as well as the CARSWELL line. Not being interested at the time in "that stuff", I missed out on a LOT of oral history *groan* 2) Aunt Gertrude's CARSWELL family, etc. and 3) GGrandfather LINDSEY's ancestors in SC and further back. William Holt and wife Ann were living in Rockingham, North Carolina in the 1800 census. He died shortly thereafter and left a will. Does anyone have any idea who his parents were? I have seen several versions of who his ancestors are and I'm getting very confused. My father always told me that we were either of English or German descent, he didn't know which one. I started this quest to answer that question, but I haven't gotten any closer to finding the answer.
MOTT......Thank you for the history lesson. It's very interesting. I thought you had told me before that the Chief Justice John had no children. I believe I missed naming Rowland, sorry about that. Always good to hear from you. The John you spoke of was born close to my John of 1760. Thanks again... Fran

The information that I have is that James Buchanan Holts father was Nathaniel Holt and Nathaniel Holts father was William Holt not John Holt. William Holt died 1809 in Rockingham County NC. William Holts father was Thomas Holt and Thomas Holts father was Henry Holt son of Rowland Holt (brother of Sir John Holt Chief Justice). CJ Holt
