I agree. So many researching and using so many sources. I have seen Randall Sr. left out etc. It needs to be "cleaned up." Why don't we do a roll call of descendants of Randall Senior and see if we can form some kind of data base from information retrieved? Just a suggestion! Here's what I have: Randall (Senior) married to Mary Bailey Children: William Jane Michael Randall (Randolph) Born: Abt 1625 (my direct line) John Randall (Junior) married Elizabeth Hansford children: John Born: 1664 (my direct line) William B Born: 1666 Thomas Elizabeth Jane Lucy (there may have been additional children)... If any of you have additional children and can show your sources, please reply and we can see what we have altogether. Many times Randall Sr. and Randall Jr. get mixed up in records and I have witnessed that happening on this site. If anyone has found Randall Senior's father in "England," then you know that his father was Randall as well! I now have in hand a lot of Holt Material I can post which may help. Also a complete descendancy on Charles(William) that was given to me by a "cousin that had it submitted for the Jamestown Society. It had been rejected when submitted as Charles Holt with Mary Newsom . Then 3 years later she was able to submit proof of Charles and they will now accept both Charles or William. I have documentation I will put into the material . Some came from William and Mary College archives. will also post the names of some books that are a must for our research. Just give me time. I am here to research. The computer screen has quit and hubby has gotten a used monitor to use until we get home. Have scads of papers to go through and much data in the computer. Research takes lots of time. Will put bits and pieces in at night as I get time when we are where I can plug into the compmputer and get on line. As a line of Hancocks are here as well I am also working on this line. Visited Bacon's Castle yesterday, took pictures of the Hogg Island area. It is now a game preserve and Atomic Power Plant. We actually got onto the site and were stopped and escorted from Hogg Island yesterday. Big excitement! Want to find out where the earlier Holts are buried. The map shows where the first Lawns Church was and it appears it is in the preserve which is a hunting area as well. Went back to the lower Surry Church -Lawns Creek Parish built in 1639 which burned in 1868. Copied the Holt graves there which are still fairly late. The current mayor is Robert Holt, the architect of the courthouse was a HOLT, and the owner of a very old and rare book book about the Holts. The Historical Library is in hopes he will donate it to the library. Met researchers there from NC and Georgia who are going to share some of those early families with us when we get home. e are also trasporting a jack left there by a Utahan last week back to him. We are enjoying the Surry people and will try to get to the Isle of Wyte and Surry today. The records of James City Co. have been taken over by an association. Copies may be in William and Mary library. An interesting fact was the following on the earliest records, such as his marriage in James City Co. is that those records were sent back to England from the Commonwealth and a good thing as the earliest records were destroyed by fire. Those that had Catholic background , the church sent copies back to Spain. Never even thought of this. Again the earliest Catholic church was destroyed in a fire. More later. About once a year I post this query hoping that new HOLT researchers have joined our list and can help me. Seeking parents and siblings of Elisha HOLT born about 1802 in NC (data gathered from 1850, '60 and '70 censuses). He is first seen in 1827 Henry county marriage book when he and Parthena Bustre marry. He settles in Fayette Co Georgia and remains there remainder of his life. Clayton co formed from Fayette and he died there, leaving will. I am hoping there are some of you who have Bible records or some family records for fear Court House fires have erased offical records. By tracing HOLTs in NC that later were in GA there may be connection between Elisha and either Thomas Holt or Arrington Holt thought to be brothers. Helene, This is what I have and my documented sources: Randall HOLT (Sr) born: 1602 and died 1639/1640. Genealogies of Virginia Families Tyler's Quarterly, History Gen. Magazine, Published 1981, ( I copied this from original document I found while visiting public library in Xenia, OH). Actual text: "It's not known when Randall Holt died, but his death must have occurred before Aug 6th, 1650 when his son Randall Holt (Jr) obtained a grant for 1022 acres, Hog Island....." Many have shown him still living after this date BUT have confused the Senior with the Junior. I have seen this many times. Keep your eyes open while there researching for John W HOLT, born 1769, York or Surry VA. ... still looking and searching for his parents!
