After rechecking, there is a vague posibility we might have a connection. You might try checking out both John & James Holt on my website:"http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rholt1/"
To those who wrote to me on this trip regarding VA Holts, please contact me the second week of May when I arrive home again. we're on ouway to SC to the archives. Will try to share some of what I have found. Have seen some of your Holts and have copied and written notes in a full notebook book. Have seen the White, Sayer, Hansford, all the Surry families, James City Co, Sussex, and surrounding counties' records. Have clues to the SC Holts as well as Georgia ones. With a broken down laptop it has been a difficult job. It's raining and packing is a mess tonight. Thnan ks for your kindnesses and info. --- Helene Pockrus --- helenepockrus@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
o The following photos, mostly from the Wisconsin, Minnesota area and apparently taken circa 1880 to early 1900s, all came from an antique album I purchased on eBay. They all seem to be related to each other, but are no relation to me. I would like them to go to a family member for the cost of postage to mail them. The pictures are on a rectangular hardboard backing with the photographer's name imprinted in the lower right corner or on the back. All are in excellent condition, as follows: -- Uncle HOLTZ; photographer -- Moses of New Orleans -- Aunt HOLTZ, mother of Lillie BARRAS; photographer -- Van Bugbee Photo -- Josephine HOLTZ BARRAS; photographer W. G. Mann, Waukesha, Wi. -- Andrew HOLTZ, brother of Lillie Barras; Photographer W. G. Mann, Waukesha, Wi. -- Annie HOLTZ; photographer -- Moses, New Orleans -- Polly HOLTZ; 1st cousin of Elizabeth HAHN; photographer -- Moses, New Orleans The following are unidentified, but came from the same album: -- Wallet size of a young girl (no photographer) -- Attractive young lady in Sunday best; photographer -- Frank Bishop, Jr. Photographic Studio 97 99 Wisconsin St., Milwaukee, Wi. -- Young boy in suit; photographer -- Paul Prescher 527, 529, 531 Chestnut St., Milwaukee, Wi. -- Young girl, bust portrait; photographer -- Miller 171 173 E. Seventh St., St. Paul, Mn. -- Young curly haired girl, bust portrait; photographer -- O. C. Burdick, St. Paul, 225 E. When was your ancestor born? All that I know about my 3rd great-grandfather, John Holt, is that he was born circa 1804-07 in Leith, according to the 1851 census. I have found no record for him earlier than that of his marriage in 1828 to Ann Grant. They had only one son that lived to maturity, John Holt, b. 1831, d. 1902; he married Marion Pillans, and they had at least 8 children, including 5 sons, Charles Owen Holt (1851-1902), John Holt (b. 1859), William Pillans Holt (1862-1902), Alexander Holt (b. 1865) and Thomas Holt (b. c1876/7). This Columbus Lafayette HOLT is the son of James William HOLT and Poline Jane TRIPLETT. Columbus married Serena DAVIS in Blount County, Tennessee. Serena was the daughter of Calvin DAVIS and Margaret Everett. James William HOLT was the son of James Buchanan HOLT and Mahala LAWS. Poline Jane TRIPLETT was the daughter of William TRIPLETT and Mary BISHOP. I recently obtained the complete Civil War pension file for James William HOLT and am in the process of sorting through it. It was quite large. -----Original Message----- From: CuznCarri@aol.com [mailto:CuznCarri@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 6:07 AM To: HOLT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HOLT-L] Re: Descendents of any of these Holt lines from Cocke Co. Oh, I am so sad! Only hae found one person who ties to our Perry Holt born 1820 SC. He had a Columbus Holt born same year and I picked him up on the Macon census in Alabama in 1870 and never found him again. Wondered how he got involved in Tennessee when all the rest stayed in Al except the few who went to OK and TX. I came across your email over the Holt line of William. I am trying to find information about Wm. Martin Holt born 1844 Marshal Co., MS, who married Araminta Jane Pound. They had son--William Martin, Jr b 1872, daughter Adeline b 1869. They lived in and around Perry Co., ALA but can't seem to find my Wm. Martin Holt because at least 3-4 Wm. Martin Holt's in Ala. Araminta's parents were Isham Zachareith Pounds b 1814 Bedford, Tenn. Harriet Barnett b 1823 Perry co, Ala. I was hoping that you might have some small ray of hope that could help me. Wm Martin Jr came to Texas 1901 with one child, wife---Nancy Everline Gandy. Thanks for any help. Nell
