    3. There was a Rev. Mark Harrison Holt born 1860 in Lee Co., Alabama. His wife was Willie Gaines born 1857. They were married in Elmore Co., AL. I do not have all their children so they may have had a child named Mark. I only have a child named Eloise born 1886. Not knowing your time frames I can't help you further. He may be on SSDI, 1880 census index, or the soundexes for 1920, 1910, 1900. Definitely need more information. 2. Yes, in 1870 Samuel and Mary were living in Alton, IL. He was a blacksmith. They are listed as "Datley" in that census. Took me the devil of a time to find it! There is a lot of German background in Alton and I suspect the census taker was German. My grandmother was born in Missouri, the two older children were born in Illinois. I think Sam settled in Alton after he mustered out of the Union army (!) in 1864. Carol Canham Harker

    3. Hello Jennifer Holt (also my daughters name - it was also the name of a woman that played in all of the old Westerns - she was Tim Holt's sister and the daughter of the movie star Jack Holt; but you knew all of this). REgarding the Arkansas (Benton Co) Holts Flash back to Tennessee. David Holt was born circa 1765, in Va. He appeared in Tennessee (Grainger Co) in 1796. His first wife may have been Jenn. Married a second wife Delpha Miles on 1-2-1833 in Grainger. I believe his children were Jane, Henry, Rutha and David Jr. Jane was born 1790 to 1800. She never married, but did have several children. One of the fathers was Thomas Whiteside (1783-1851). Actually, Andrew Kelly fathered one child (court records, but no name) and it appears that Whiteside fathered David, Thomas, William, Elizabeth Jane and Lucinda. The last mentioned David was born February 1823 in Grainger Co. He married Mary "Polly" Walker on Feb 14, 1844 in Grainger. They had the following children: James Henry b 1845 in Grainger George Washington 1848 in Grainger - married Mary Texanne Coffelt? William 1849 Joseph Sarah John Daivid "Doc" Tolliver April 25, 1858 in Benton Co Ark married Mary Narcissas Jane Williams on 3/12/1875 Virginia 1867 Sterling 1863 My research in all of this Holt material comes from the Henry that was the brother of Jane. My Henry married Elizabeth Bowman in 1805 in Grainger, and my Holt line has been in Grainger (and vicinity) ever since, until my father moved to Washington DC where I was born.
