It sounds like the work of the Klez worm and if so, the person you are blaming is not sending these things, but his computer is because he made the mistake of opening an attachment sent to him. I initially did the same thing you are in blaming a person instead of their computer. After weeks of being inundated with these e-mails, they've finally slowed down to only an occssional one in my in-box, but for several weeks, there were several a day. They began showing up in my mailbox after it found it's way into one of the private surname lists through yahoo.com who does not have a virus filter like RootsWeb does. Fortunately for me, the first one had a subject line that clued me in to something being wrong with it, but many of them don't, and this worm will start sending e-mails "from" you as well even though your computer isn't infected, but it has your address from someone else's computer. There's a "fix" for this at the Symantec site where you can check to see if you have it. I've run that several times to make sure that I don't have this thing. As far as I know, there's absolutely nothing you can do about the e-mail you're receiving, each with a small zipped attachment, and each subject line and attachment with different names stolen from the files of infected computers, except to simply delete them and NEVER download the attachments. One of these e-mails I received even claimed the attachment was a fix for the worm! --Wilene << Date: Tue, 04 Jun 2002 23:46:48 -0400 From: Karen Holt <holtke@bellsouth.net> To: HOLT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HOLT-L] Attachments Thanks everyone for the replies! Dear Holt cousins, I am interested in obtaining copies of the two Holt books mentioned, The Holts of TN and the other Holt family group, as I would like to donate a copy of each of these to the Germanna Colonies of Virginia, to the Library at Germanna College, as part of their Genealogy Department's wealth of gathered information on these, our forebears.. The Library at the Germanna Foundation has a wealth of information available to Germanna Descendants, concerning our ancestors. I would appreciate an answer from anyone who can help. It would benefit all descendants.. The Germanna Colonies Library already has a copy of The Descendant's of Michael Holt" by Maudie Marie Holt, (Mrs. Arch Bruce Marshall.) She lived in Houston, Texas. Please, let's all work together to honor our ancestors. They certainly did much more for each of us. We should work together, we owe it to them and to each other.. The Germanna Annual Reunion is going to be held from July 19 - 21 , at the Germanna Foundation site. This is whereRoute #3, crosses the Rapidan River on Germanna Highway15 miles east of Culpepper, and 20 miles west of Fredericksburg, Va., on the Germanna College grounds. Anyone who attends will certainly benefit, where it all began. Keep searching! Ora in Va.
What are the names of the books on the Mo. And Tn. Holts? I'm having trouble finding the parents of my great great grandmother, Jane Holt, who was born in NC but had her first children in Tn. I have her birth as abt. 1824 in Alabama. I have the 1870 census of Fayetteville Ar. as 43 years old, from Alabama, married to Dudley Davis (she was widowed in 1863, as far as we know, Dudley was killed in the Civil War, possibly at Vicksburg). Thank you Cleo!! I am still searching for my Jacob Holt b 1794 in Orange Co. NC parents. He moved to Sullivan Co. Tn. Where he join the 1812 army and later in 1831 he married his second wife Sarah Ann Vied. I would give anything to get my hand on a doc to prove who his parent were! I have been told by many members of the family he is of German descent. The vital in Lyon Co. Ky. (where he finally settled) has his parents as James and Lydia Holt and that his father was from Germany. Since he wasn't giving the info....................who knows. I do believe he descends from the Michael Holt who came to VA and then on to Orange Co. NC. His war papers states that he was born in Orange Co. NC. Thanks again...................I will check this info out on the book.
