Nell: Thanks for the kind words!!! Once the map was redone by my graphic friend, it really is a wonderful reference tool for those who know their ancestors came from Surry County. I'm always surprised to get that random letter in the mail asking for the map. It's always a pleasure to send it to them, too, because people enjoy it so much. Glad you liked it. Good luck on your research!!! There was a great-uncle in Nova Scotia but not the same time period as your family. However, I did have a great-uncle Herbert HOLT who went to the U.S. I know he died in Connecticut but may have lived a time in California with wife Margaret and one known child Barbara. Was wondering if you had ever come across these names in your research. Good luck in your search. Leslie

It is possible your Holt was a child of our Holt's of Nova Scotia. They lived in Five Islands. William Holt would have been his grandfather. He had12 children. Married 1775 in Horton, Nove Scotia to Priscilla Fuller, whose father was Noah. Do not have William's parents name, but think his father was John and he was supposed to be one of the first settlers of Five Islands in Nova Scotia. The main part of the family came by ship in 1868 around the horn landing in San Francisco, Calif., but some stayed in Nova Scotia. Please contact me direct at holt18@earthlink.net. Thsnks so much.
