    3. Hi, all, This is my first posting to the list, and my first order of business is a big thank you to Lee (6 Apr 2005) who sent the information from the ss death index for Idema HOLT. Idema was the wife of my Uncle Sallie HOLT, brother of my grandmother Leona (Holt), both of whom came from Wayne County TN to Logan County Arkansas. I have not been able to find out who Idema's parent's were, but Leona and Uncle Sallie's parents were John Holt (died 1891 in Wayne County, TN) and Martha Dianah Fowler Holt. They were married in 1871 in Wayne County, TN. John Holt's first wife was Henrietta STAGGS. Martha Dianah came to Logan County, Arkansas after the death of her husband, John. Their children were Leander, William Benjamin, Nancy, Wayne, Ambrose, L. E., John Columbus, A. L. Seeking information on Leander, William Benjamin, Nancy (Ithink she was buried in Arkansas), Wayne, L. E., and A. L. (I think my Uncle Sallie's real name was Amrose). I have tracked, but not proven, the line as follows (starting with my grandmother, Leona (Holt)'s father): John Holt, Joseph Holt, Ambros Holt, William Holt, Ambrose Holt. John Holt was born 1836; Joseph Holt was born 1808; Ambros Holt born about 1774 in Wilkes County, NC; William Holt born about 1748 in Virginia; Ambrose Holt born 1725 in Henry county, VA If anyone has information on those lines, I would appreciate hearing from you.

    3. Donna, if you will write me at [email protected] or at [email protected] I can give you reference sources, etc. For more than ten years I have collected an extensive database on ancesters and descendants of Samuel Holt and Mary Binford. Before years end, working together with Janis Gilmore, it is our hope to complete a well documented "every" name (including girls' lines) descendants' database. As for Sam's ancesters the database is as well documented as it can be considering there seems to be some missing Virginia and North Carolina records (burned courthouses, war damage, etc). I live in Virginia and have spent many an hour looking for records on this particular Holt ancestral lines. In my direct line the most interesting fact (in so far as I'm concerned) I've turned up is that Randal Holt II and a man named Thomas Warren apparently absolutely despised each other. Bacon's rebellion probably was the source of their initial dislike for each other. Randal Holt ! probably supported the rebellion (his brotherinlaw was hung for treason against the crown) whereas the aristocrat-born Thomas Warren supported the crown. Anyhow, there is a court record where one called the other a "lying barking dog". Since both men are my 9th g-grandfathers I got a good chuckle over that particular record. 3. I have been busy checking out the son, Thomas Holt, of Washington Holt in Cecil County Maryland. Can anyone tell me Thomas second name or initial. This is a problem because I though maybe this could be my greatgrandfather, initial H, but I find in Wesley Chapel an old cemetery down in Elk Neck a Thomas J. Holt died 1/17/1869 at the age of 22. If this is the son of Washington Holt who is buired there, I am looking in the wrong place and I really thought I had finally found out where my HOlt line started in Maryland since that is all I know about his family. Thanks Jo Ann in Kansas

    1. ? re cemetery inscription--Matoaca, VA
    2. Hello fellow listers! I have a question about a cemetery inscription on the stone of my great uncle's grave. He's William Henry HOLT b. 1847 d. 1925. Anyway, he's buried in the Matoaca Cemetery in Chesterfield Co., VA. The inscription reads as follows: William H. Holt 1847 1925 Kecoutan Tribe No. 37 Imp'd. O.R.M. Is that having to do with the Kecoughtan Tribe? I don't think we have Native American blood but the inscription sounds funny to me. There are several others buried in this small plot that have that inscription also. Thanks for any information or ideas as to what this means. PS. This inscription was from a cemetery report done by the Works Progress Administration. Gayle Rockelli in Maryland (Clemmons HOLT line, VA)
