In the 1880 census James states that he was born in Indiana and that his parents were both born in Tennnessee. The naming pattern of his children seems to match that of a Henry Holt, b. @ 1813 in Tennessee, found in 1860 in McCameron, Martin County, Indiana. James did name his first child Henry, so it is a possibility. There is an Andrew Holt, b @ 1838 in Indiana, also living in Greene County in 1860, althou not in the same town as James and Amanda.

I am looking for the parents of James, b.1834, d.1895 or any brothers or sisters. He married Amanda J. Flynn in greene co. Ind. and they moved to Jasper co. Illinois to farm. What state did James come from? I have run into a road block...Richarad Holt, any help would be appreciated..thank you...

I've been working quite a bit on this aspect Linzey..over the past couple of weeks. Here is what I suspect and am trying to document. >From Ancestry.com -- Robert Holt 4-24-1744 born in Surrey County VA (later Surry Co NC) married Elizabeth Stanfield born 1760 in Halifax, VA died c 1795 in Tennessee. Married circa 1775. Children were Frances Holt b 1778 (according to other data I have located this IS the same Frances who married Lewis Ross brother of Chief John Ross) and Elizabeth Holt (the wife of Timothy Meigs). I don't yet know which Robert this is. Probably a descendent of Nicholas Holt. But I do not yet know. What I do know is that Timothy Meigs was the son of Jonathan Return Meigs Cherokee Indian Agent in about 1802 for a few years. JR Meigs lived and worked at Fort Southwest Point, now Kingston, Tennessee. Tim married Elizabeth Holt who is supposed to be the dtr of Robert. Timothy died in this area, now McMinn County, TN., in 1811 Their descendents are accepted on their Miller/Dawes applications in 1909-1910. Making it positive that these do indeed have Cherokee blood. There are Holts mentioned in three different lineages in the David Hampton Lewis book which suppliments Dr. Emmett Starr's History of the Cherokee Indian. Hi All This is my first post. I cannot find a birth for a Petronella Holt. I have her baptism record which gives her date of birth as 7 November 1903 address 24 well close square, london e1. Her parents were John Joseph Dean Holt, b 31 Jul 1801 at 37 St Stephen's Terrace, Lambeth, London and Sarah. Petronella married John Stocker on 25 Dec 1921 at St Mary's, Whitechapel. The problem is that i cannot find a birth for Petronella nor a marriage for her parents. I have searched for a birth for Petronella 10 years either side of her supposed date of birth but no luck. Thanks so much for confirming the families I have picked up. Not my direct line but am most interested in the Bailey name, which started me following the family. There is some relationship between the Bailey P. Holt who was in Tennessee and very near my Perry Holt who was born 1820 in SC. It is not a common name and I have been following them. The connection may tie to Mary Bailey and so I keep searching. The name Oliver also goes back and foreward in our lineages. Martha C. is listed as his second wife in 1910 census. So where do these other wives tie in?
