This poor man needs parents! And siblings! He wed Keziah Cox around Augusta, Richmond Co, GA or across the river in SC about 1810. By 1818 they were in Conecuh Co., AL, then Butler Co, AL, until 1840's when they settled permanently in Rankin Co., MS. I'm grasping at straws here, but since I have nothing to go on (and nothing to lose), am focusing on the name Shadrach as perhaps being his father's name as well. The "Roster of Soldiers from NC in the American Revolution" (DAR 1932) lists a couple of Shadrack Holmes: Pvt. Shadrach Holmes, 5th Regiment, Col. Edward Williams' Company, Buncombe County, enlisted 1777. Pvt. Shadrack Holmes, 10th Regiment, Col. Abraham Shephard, Blount's Company, enlisted 1776 (I believe he ultimately made rank of Sgt.) At least one of these Shadrach's was granted land, and one Shadrach Holmes appears on the 1781 tax roll for Bertie County. Is anyone researching either of these men? Have much on the descendants of my James Shadrach Holmes, but believe he sprang from a black hole in NC. Children of James Shadrach and Keziah Cox Holmes were: Sarah A., Jane, Martha, George Washington, Ellen, William Decatur, Keziah, Josiah, Amanda Frances, Abigail Mary, James Shadrack Jr., Edward Hillary and Blanton Wilcox Holmes. No scrap too small; happy to share. Thanks. helen
