My earliest HOLMES is Thomas Holmes, born in County Donegal, Ireland, year unkown. He was a shoemaker. He married Nancy or Annie McNEELY. In the late 1700s, he came to the U.S., settling for a time in New York before moving to Brooke County, VA (now West Virginia.) His will, dated Oct 1, 1829 and recorded March 26, 1832, names children: sons Isaac and Thomas, daughters Margaret ATKINSON, Jane ALLISON, Anne RALSTON, Izebele RUSSEL, Lucinda Priscilla RALSTON (b. March 7, 1795; m. 1817; d Dec 26, 1846), and Elizabeth WILEY. Would love to know more about this family. Diane
